I normally see this patch with yellow stitching or with a dark blue background. Was this blue stitching and light blue background done for any particular reason?

It's usually been in a light blue background, if you see ones with a dark blue background you should get them , variations are collectable too .

 

Your "posted" patch is the older larger 50/60's era type back when they made them better and larger , and they just cahnged the "title" color and size in the 70's

I picked this PACAF patch up a few years ago

 

On top of the color differences, that looks Korean made.

The early Pacific Air Forces patches had the light blue background, the Air Force changed the background color to dark blue but I don't know when.

I believe they went to the dark blue background in the mid 1990's when they started messing with designations of the sqdns, wings and restructuring the AF. Many patches went back to the original colors and designs from when the were first designed.
