15 inch brass USN dolphins

I would say that this looks like it was made on any one of the Sub Tenders that had a foundry, 80's, 70's 60's or earlier but my money is on cold war era. And the use is decorative.

Yep, though not just decorative. These were used on Quarterdecks of command units (i.e. squadrons, etc), wardrooms, fleet schools & related shore facilities (maintenance, torpedo shops, dive lockers, etc.)

Here's one from a dive locker I have.

Either way it was decorative, that stuff really added flavor to the Navy. If you were on a command with a foundry it was every were. THese dolphins could be older or newer than I said and is not finished like salvages dive insignia, both fantastic items.
