In the book by the doctor it mentions the night Ruth Sobeck got hit when a rogue German bombed the hospital ship. She is a friend of Mrs S. manayunkman Posted September 9, 2012 Author #29 Posted September 9, 2012 Toward the end of the war Mrs S's unit was involved with helping inmates at Dachau. I have a xerox copy of a letter she wrote to her mother in which she goes into detail about her first visit there. Here are some photos with captions on the back
manayunkman Posted September 9, 2012 Author #30 Posted September 9, 2012 A letter I asked her to write concerning the white porcelain dog in the photos.
manayunkman Posted September 9, 2012 Author #31 Posted September 9, 2012 Here is the dog she brought home. These were being made at the camp by the SS using slave labor. Allach Porcelain. Despite the free labor they couldn't make a profit. The Polaroid was the picture she used to entice me into wanting the dog. She no longer had the dog but managed to get it back.
manayunkman Posted September 9, 2012 Author #33 Posted September 9, 2012 Please leave any kind of comment. I am going to get some pictures of the photos and post them later. Thanks for looking. M

And becoming rare in this hobby I think. Thanks S This was one of those rare instances when you click with somebody and over time you have a deeper appreciation for their life. It also gave me a chance to be more thorough and get provenance to pull it all together.. Many times I'm in and I'm out because nobody wants to talk. That wasn't the case here.

doyler Posted September 9, 2012 #40 Posted September 9, 2012 Not sure under what circumstances this would have been worn. Still has belt. Manny This is basically an off duty dress. The belt is the same material and secured by a single brass button. There was an earlier version made in blue and also a version made in beige. Is that a small canvas holster in the photos?? Outstanding group.
