Third Herd Posted September 6, 2012 Share #6 Posted September 6, 2012 Back in the 1970's a dealer from Omaha always had some, he sold WWI and earlier. He started getting stuff from Bannerman's in the 1930's and had tons of stuff I wish I had bought more from him.

Lee Ragan Posted September 6, 2012 Share #8 Posted September 6, 2012 A nice selection of the 1872-1902 pattern chevrons. I've liked those forever and get any that I can for my collection. Getting old Bannermans stock is very good, but please be aware that these are being reproduced for the Indian Wars/ Span. Am. War living history hobby. For years, guys used originals, but in recent years some of the old sewing machines that can produce that particualr chain stitch have made a come-back. In the early 20's the Army sold a bail of those that weighed over a ton as wool scrap and Bannermans bought them. That's why so many of these survived (thank God). Thanks for showing your recent catch!
Third Herd Posted September 6, 2012 Share #9 Posted September 6, 2012 I was told Bannerman sold them for 5 cents a stripe, a sergeant stripe cost 15 cents, by a guy selling it to me for $15.
