Ink & Watercolor Sketches

Here is a study of a group of US soldiers in Vietnam (1967). It's not easy getting the scans to match the original. That's what I get for buying a cheap scanner.

I've been following this thread from the beginning and really like your work.

Your quality certainly matches your quantity! :)

Have you given any thought to showing your collection at a local gallery?

Keep up the fine work!

Terry

to all who have served!

I like that study of the US soldiers in Vietnam

Thanks - it was a good exercise for drawing the face from different angles.

Thanks Terry,

I had not given thought to local galleries but my library offers local artists a room to show case their work for a night. I think I will start planning for that (the price is right :) )

Here I'm trying to stay within my skill level. Monochrome, minimalistic and a bit impressionistic. I can always go back and add more details.

I picked up a used book of Winslow Homer's early works (his Civil War Soldier sketches are a great source of inspiration). Needless to say I am trying to mimic his simple yet bold style. Here is a study of a US soldier landing on a beach.

I rushed through this a bit (must learn patience :( ). Trying to get use to doing background to give the soldiers a little context.

  • 2 weeks later...

I may need to rework this; it's a bit too bright. Darker shadows may help convey a more somber mood (assuming that I don't destroy it).
