manayunkman Posted September 1, 2012 Author Share #35 Posted September 1, 2012 Two summers ago the Enola VFW had a rededication after fixing up the memorial. I was asked to do a display for the event right next to this memorial and was honored to do so. Enola was the last place I lived before moving away from the area. You have no idea how built up this area is now.

manayunkman Posted September 1, 2012 Author Share #41 Posted September 1, 2012 There is a disconnect in these last two written accounts. Anybody see it ? Well I hope everyone enjoys this group. Please leave a comment. Thank you M
ssggates Posted September 1, 2012 Share #42 Posted September 1, 2012 Indeed there is. Two different versions, even the number of campaigns changed. The first is typical of an 83rd troop who was original from Atterbury on. The second letter sounds more like the typical replacement who joined during the bulge. Interesting. Really awesome group, thanks for posting! There is a disconnect in these last two written accounts. Anybody see it ? Well I hope everyone enjoys this group. Please leave a comment. manayunkman Posted September 1, 2012 Author Share #46 Posted September 1, 2012 Love the color portrait, those are rare in themselves. I thought that it might be rare. The only other one I have is from a paratrooper in the 506. Thank you for your comment.
manayunkman Posted September 1, 2012 Author Share #47 Posted September 1, 2012 Sweet group! I love the letter, it really gives a humorous look at the "emotional" side of war. Fe is kind of a character. When I met him you would never have guessed that he talked to his mom that way.

Really awesome group, thanks for posting! I would like to get to the bottom of that question. Is he a replacement or was he with the unit from D-16 onward ?? manayunkman Posted September 1, 2012 Author Share #49 Posted September 1, 2012 M that letter to his Mom is Priceless! He must have had a good relationship with her as my dad would have whooped my own butt if I talked to my mom like that when I was his age.. lol. I like the true gritty feel of it. Mike I actually went into the house to look at the German flag. We then started to talk more about his unit and that got us to the trunk where he had what was left from the war. There were no uniforms just all that you see here. He agreed to let it go and we packed it up to go without looking at everything ( I got a bunch of PRR and other stuff as well ) When I got home I started to sort it all out. Thats when I found the letter he wrote home to his mom. I couldn't believe it. Who has a conversation like that with their mom ? That is when I decided to keep the group. Thanks Mike. I'm glad you like it. I wasn't allowed to talk like that to my mom either.
manayunkman Posted September 1, 2012 Author Share #50 Posted September 1, 2012 ssggates, Here is another sheet of paper where Fe lists all the places he visited. He was at Omaha but he was there after the war was over sight seeing. That is what I think because he was stationed at camp Oklahoma City Rheims France.
