DSC & DFC changes in number locations

Thanks to several USMF members, especiallly Dexter & Rocco, the transition in Dist. Service Cross number location from left to right side is now known to within 200 digits. The DSC numbers were recorded to be on the left side run from #8570 up to #13108. And now the right side number location has been documented to extend from #13297 up to #22245. What remains to be determined is whether this number changeover corresponded to a different DSC contract. Or whether the same contractor made this change for their own convenience. My survey of DSC numbers now has 142 reported data. Only about 5000 DSCs were awarded during WW2, so that a huge stock of numbered crosses was left over. These DSCs have been dribbling out into the collectors' market for many years.

Similarly, the transition in Dist. Flying Cross numbers from the left bottom edge to split numbers that straddle the propeller tip has been pinned down. The left bottom edge number sequence runs from at least DFC #1129 up to #13029. The split number range extends at least from #13x166 up to #18x032. My survey of DFC numbers now has 114 reported data. Since over 125,000 DFCs were awarded during WW2, all the numbered stock should have been consumed.
