otter42 Posted August 26, 2025 #451 Posted August 26, 2025 Looks artificially aged. The liners I've seen are in bad shape after that much use and discolored from sweat. As well as the fur collar looks in great shape. The cuffs and waist band show little use. I love the artwork, but I don't think this is a period piece that was worn by an aircrew man.
KASTAUFFER Posted August 26, 2025 Author #452 Posted August 26, 2025 One additional thing is that CV-9 is the USS Essex, not the USS Hornet. Kurt
otter42 Posted August 26, 2025 #453 Posted August 26, 2025 Opps, someone didn't do their homework when painting the jacket! Good eye Kurt
Cobrahistorian Posted February 11 #454 Posted February 11 Hey all, Been a while, but I figured this was the best place to come. I'm currently working on a jacket here at work that is somewhat unusual for an M422/422A/G-1 and I wanted to see what you guys thought. It's likely a Korean War piece, but possibly immediate postwar occupation era. It has a black silk lining and the pocket flaps have snaps rather than buttons. It doesn't look like it ever had anything but snaps. It has a US Marines PX patch on the left breast and a great painted back. Zipper is a square pull Talon. It does look like there's the remnant of a USN under the collar, but it's pretty far gone. We're bringing it into the collection because of the artwork, and I'm working on determining the provenance. I just need a positive ID on the jacket and whether or not it's a private purchase or contract jacket. Thanks! J
navy Posted February 11 #455 Posted February 11 Private purchase jacket. USN M-422, M-422a, AN-J-3a, 55-J-14, MIL-J-7823, etc. contract issued jackets only used button pocket flaps, never used a silk lining, etc.
