manayunkman Posted August 25, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 25, 2012 I met the nephew of this veteran on an unrelated call. The conversation turned to WW2 and he brought some things out. I got 2 groupings from him from 2 family members, 8th AF B-24 gunner and this group. All he had when I met him were the 2 patches, wing and oval. He gave me his aunts number and she sent me all the paper. 90% are general orders but there are some interesting things thrown in.

BEAST Posted August 29, 2012 Share #22 Posted August 29, 2012 Manayunkman, General orders such as these provide the names and assignments of many men who would be otherwise lost. Granted, the odds that someone would be looking for that particular vet may be high, but not impossible. Basically they provide the vet's paper trail, but always seem to be the items that a vet or family throws out first. When I find general orders such as these, I'll scan them and make them searchable, so if someone is looking for a particular vet that may be listed, I can do a quick search and see if I can help. Ideally, I would like to set up a webpage with these documents, so that others could search them too.
