And what to my wandering eyes shall appear....

Recommended Posts

I was at a antique store today that is about two hours away. I haven't had a lot of luck at this place lately and it is on my list to go from A rate to B if it doesn't produce something soon. I had walked half the mall and hadn't found a single thing of note when I walked around the end of one cubicle and almost kicked this.

Thinking it was a Vietnam liner, I didn't see the grommet on the front until I turned it over and realized it was a WWII liner...

I picked it up to see what the price tag had on it, that is when I saw this. It took awhile to comprehend what I was looking at.

I noticed the snaps, but something was missing. Then it hit me, a paratrooper with the A yokes removed.

Unfortunately, the yokes were cut out, the question is by who? Did the Soldier do it because he didn't want to fold it up into the top? Was it some kid that had been playing with it. The sweatband is original, it has been used and seen better days, but it is a nice Westinghouse liner. Now, do I look for a shell? I need to clean the paint inside the rim up and see what name is lying underneath. Projects, projects, projects.

Was the price tag "reasonable"?

Lots of paratroopers just cut the yokes off once they hit the ground, its probably just as easy to tuck them up inside the webbing but remember we are talking about 18-20 year olds who werent thinking about the future jumps or us future collectors!!!!....i have a few just like it and mate them up with very well worn M1Cs or a nice beat fixed bail would work too!....great find there!.....mike

Always looking for and buying 50's era 11th Airborne/ 187th ARCT/ 82nd Airborne tac mark painted jump helmets!

Very nice find... And you can still research where it's been if you want.
