It says Company F, 4th Pioneer. That would be the 4th Pioneer Infantry. Organised Feb 1918 at Camp Greene, NC; at Camp Wadsworth, SC Feb 1918; at Camp Stuart, VA wp 1918; at Port of Embarkation Newport News, VA Sep 1918; overseas from Sep 1918 to Feb 1919; Demobilized Feb 1919 at Camp Hill, VA. The 4th were Corps troops in France. Pioneer Infantry were classed as engineers, sort of the same as combat engineers, but doing more labor type missions. I find no campaign credit listed for them.

Based on my research most of the Regiment was sent the 2nd Depot Division and used and Infantry replacements. I'm guessing for occupation duty after the war ended. C Company was mostly made up of draftees from Chicago called up in late September. A lot of men from the Company were used as Prisoner of War Escorts. This unit is very near and dear to me.

Looking for anything related to the Pioneer Infantry Regiments. Specifically the 4th Pioneers.
