gitana Posted August 10, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2012 Are there PT Boat records available online? I am trying to research my wife's grandfather who served on PTs 211 (Ron 15) and 155 (Ron 9). I've read through AT CLOSE QUARTERS and would like to find war diaries or action reports for those boats, if they exist. Can anyone suggest other ways to research someone like this? I'm new to both the Navy and researching sides of the forum. Thanks!

gitana Posted August 12, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted August 12, 2012 Thank you, those are helpful. I'm looking also for the more detailed, day to day activities of a particular PT boat, or squadron even.
GITom1944 Posted August 18, 2012 Share #4 Posted August 18, 2012 Here's some other links: http://www.battleshipcove.com/ has two restored PT Boats and a PT boat museum. They have a display for every PT boat squadron and may have a research room (My memory is fuzzy). http://www.ptboatworld.com/ There may be no one that has researched PTs as much as T. Garth Connelly. Edit: Here's another link with research info http://pt-king.gdinc.com/PTResearch.html.
MWalsh Posted August 24, 2012 Share #5 Posted August 24, 2012 Personally, I think this website is your best bet: http://www.history.navy.mil/research_and_collections.html Take a couple hours and go through the different tabs on it and see what the Navy's holdings are. They hold ship logs, unit reports, etc. I think this ultimately will be your best bet. Good luck! MW
clsspace Posted October 23, 2012 Share #6 Posted October 23, 2012 I have been able to find a lot of information in the war diaries on Fold3. A quick look shows at lot for MTB RON 15 and PT 211 is mentioned in a lot of them. Will need a subscription to look and download but get one for a month, it will be worth it.
