Salvage Sailor

This is an Elgin 8 Day Aircraft clock that was in my father's workshop for many years. He worked on many military contracts, but I don't know where he got it or which airframe it came from.

The face is marked ‘A.C. U.S. ARMY TYPE A-11’

On the reverse is a manufacturers plate with the following information:

ORDER No. AC-34898

MFRS. PART No. 1776

SPEC No. 94-27970A

SER. No. AF43-18503

ELGIN NAT’L WATCH CO.

Anyone have a better ID on this clock?

Its a WWII clock for sure, but could have come out of any type of plane. The AAF made standard clocks that were interchangeable.

Hello Savage Sailor,

Yes that's an aircraft clock. The AF43-***** says it was constructed in 1943 and these would have been mounted in the instrument cluster of a Curtis P40 Warhawk or a MD C-47 Sky Train. It's also possible that it came out of a Mustang, although, the SN might be a little early for that. I also have one of the same with an earlier SN that came from my Grandfather. He acquired it from a P-40 when serving in the 14th AF, Flying Tigers, while stationed in Kunming, China.

Regards, Mike

Good information. FYI, I sold a Bulova A-11 with the original dial last weekend for $200.00. I had it tuned up by my watchmaker and it ran perfectly.

Thanks, Al

I've got one very similar to that in my P-47 panel.

In memory of 1LT Julius C. Goldman, XO of F/330th, 83rd Infantry Division 1944-45.

Looking for ETO/MTO P-47 and Tactical Reconnaissance Unit photographs and any items associated with WWII Jewish fighter pilots.
