The LGB trademark

Recommended Posts

On Wednesday, November 01, 1944, a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed for LGB by L.G. BALFOUR COMPANY, INC., North Attleboro, MA 027630999.

The above information was lifted from a dealers website. Is that info correct ? and can we assume Balfour wings marked LGB are post Nov 1, 1944 or would they have been using the LGB mark for some time before that date ?

Thanks,

Graham

The key to the trademark information is not only the date that the trademark protection was filed for or granted,

but the date it was first used in commerce.

In the case of L.G. Balfour, both hallmarks were used concurrently.

Balfour hm- first used in commerce 1913, filed for trademark 11-18-47, registered 10-11-49

LGB hm- first used in commerce 1919, filed for trademark 11-1-44, registered 6-12-45

I am sure that John Cooper has a lot more Balfour/LGB info.

Best, John
