patches Posted July 27, 2012 Share #28 Posted July 27, 2012 Lets not forget the CRAZED NCO, like Aldo Ray as Sergeant Montana in Men in War. Here he is again as the lunatic NCO Sergeant Croft in the Naked and the Dead, just look at the sinister look in his face as he thinks about what he's going to do to the Nip POW :fear:
AustYank Posted July 27, 2012 Share #29 Posted July 27, 2012 And do you notice that if anyone of these blokes, starts talking about what he is going to do after the War and how hes going to marry his sweetheart and settle down. Its a fair bet, that in the next scene hes gunna be killed Mick

Sabrejet Posted July 27, 2012 Author Share #31 Posted July 27, 2012 The City-Slicker: A street-wise, fast talker who cut his teeth on the mean streets of Chicago/ New York/Brooklyn etc. Gives just a hint of a possible hoodlum past. Useful with a blade...often cast as an Italian-American.

Patriot Posted July 28, 2012 Share #34 Posted July 28, 2012 How about...The Shavetail: a young 2nd Lt who's full of enthusiasm but just keeps screwing things up due to his youth and inexperience, so our "hard-bitten NCO" has to continuously save his butt! I actually own a shavetail (shirt)! They earned that name because the former enlisted man used fabric from his shirt tails to make shoulder loops for an officers shirt. Many weren't so keen on buying a new wardrobe on a 2nd Lt. salary! To be honest, I have not seen too many of these shirts out there. As for cliche` - How about Corp. Prophylactic. He's probably someone "Doc" came to know pretty well. Pfc. O'Shady is another character we tend to see. You know the guy - he was a street tough in civilian life, perhaps even joined the army to escape incarceration. Ironically, the military affords him an environment where he thrives, something civilian life denied him.
Bluehawk Posted July 28, 2012 Share #35 Posted July 28, 2012 And of course the most famous portrayal of a Deranged NCO Seargent First Class Barnes. The perfect confluence of insanity and bureaucracy.

Gregory Posted July 28, 2012 Share #39 Posted July 28, 2012 Kowalski....there's always one named "Kowalski"! There was an exception to the rule however. In the Kelly's Heroes actor Richard Davalos played Pvt Gutowski.
Sabrejet Posted July 28, 2012 Author Share #40 Posted July 28, 2012 Kowalski...Gutowski....doesn't really matter just as long as there's the mandatory "...ski" in there somewhere! How about "Sawicki" (sp?)...that's another one which pops up from time to time?

How about "Sawicki" (sp?)...that's another one which pops up from time to time? This is due to the fact that we also built America. The first Poles landed in America on October 1st, 1608, on board of the "Mary and Margaret" ship. Equally well the "...ski"- or "...cki"-named characters could play their roles in the Western movies. :w00t: Yes, cowboy Kowalski, Kwiatkowski, Wiśniewski or Muracki would not be a historical blunder in the Western movies... Best regards Gregory PS. Bravo for UK for the Olympic Games opening ceremony! :bravo:
