Getting a WWII Impressions M1941 jacket

Hey gang, just won this. I hope the size works. ATF was recommending a size 42 for me but I figured if I could save $100, I'd take the chance on this 44. I'm 6'4", 230 lbs and have a size 42 chest. What do people think? Will it fit ok? I'm not planning on doing any reenacting but just to wear it.

How is the WWII Impressions tag supposed to look? If I get and its not a WWII Impressions jacket, I can file not as described item.

Yeah, that is definitely not a World War II Impressions Jacket. I do recall that World War II Impressions did sell Sturm Jackets for a while as an "Economy Option" to their more expensive in house production but I don't believe that has been in years. Juan, would you mind chiming in?

BTW this is the seller's response when I asked him if it was a Sturm-Miltec jacket:

In the future ask questions before you bid as it clearly states in the listing. I bought this jacket from WW2 impressions in California about 10 years ago. I never heard of The other company you mentioned. I will send a picture of the tag when I get a chance.

I think the other members are right about it being a "Sturm" jacket. It's an economy model, not as well-made or as accurate as regular WW2 Impressions or ATF '41s...but if you just want it for a leisure jacket it'll probably be ok.

I have one of the Sturm 1941's I purchased several years ago and it has held up well. I changed out the pea green buttons with originals (although I have read somewhere that the pea green ones were used by some WWII contractors). The only thing really wrong about the Sturm is the left-hand zipper. If you are not using it for serious reenacting, it makes a great casual jacket (I wear mine as a medium-weight coat in winter). Also, it looks like you only paid $53.00 for it shipped. That's not a bad price for the coat, you did well and will have a nice, if not "perfect" jacket.

IIRC there are what you might call first and second generation Sturm '41s. They were among the first to mass-produce "generic" M41 type jackets post "Saving Private Ryan" before the real specialists got in on the act. They can be best described as "lookalikes" rather than reproductions in the true sense. The first ones were tan coloured...obviously wrong and probably because they used a faded WW2 example as their model (WW2 originals do tend to fade to a tan shade but were a distinctly greenish shade of OD when issued.) Also the buttons were the wrong colour and the lining was a kind of synthetic flannel. Also being European made, the zippers fastened on the opposite side to US types. Apart from that they were fine!! I believe the second generation ones are slightly better?

Just got a message from the seller, after I asked him for a pic of the tag, that he wants to cancel the auction as its out of stock. Strange as I was considering still buying it and honoring it since I had won the auction. Well, now for me to get a better one.

I think that you are better off not getting that one at that price. I have a Mil Tec that I bought around 2002 or 2003. It has held up well. Mine is a size 42. I was thinking of selling it as it does not fit me too well anymore. It is faded, has stains, etc but it looks like a combat jacket! PM me if your interested.

Actually if you are 6'4 you may want to try a 44. I am 6'1 and the sleeves on my 42 are a little too short on me and unless you have a flat stomach the waist on the 42 may be tight for you.

Yeah that's a miltec. 10 years ago that's what we sold. We didn't make our own at that time. Decent repro but had it's flaws. Patterns are rather straight and square, not curved and fitted like the originals. Not good for taller folks.

Actually I just got a used 44R 1st Generation ATF. Feels a bit snug, might be okay if I don't zipper it? Should I go for a 46?
