nix284 Posted July 18, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2012 I recently got a grouping of WWII era pinback Officers insignia. In it were these major's pins that had been painted silver, I assume for a promotion to Lt. Col, without buying new rank. Seeking advise on keeping them as is, or removing the paint to restore to original gold major's pins. Thanks!

CNY Militaria Posted July 18, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 18, 2012 I agree, keep them as is. This is seen from time to time with the change in rank. I think it adds to the story of the piece. Justin
Sabrejet Posted July 18, 2012 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2012 Interesting! I once had a pair of subdued captain's bars which were actually regular silver bars sprayed flat black! The clutch posts were the giveaway because they remained silver due to the rubbing of the clutches.
nix284 Posted July 18, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted July 18, 2012 I think I'll leave them as is now that I've talked to you guys. You can easily see the gold on the backsides.
Jba1973 Posted October 8, 2012 Share #6 Posted October 8, 2012 Leave them. This may have been a field expedient modification, and defiantly adds to the story.
