Tinman Posted July 17, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 17, 2012 I hope no one minds me posting this. I believe it is Naval Aviation related. I acquired this badge some time ago because of the wing pattern. It’s 2” wide, quite heavy with green, white and black enamel. There are traces of gold wash on the wings. The center shield has Philadelphia beneath which is NFD. The back is marked Robbins Co. Attleboro in raised letters. I’m assuming it has something to do with Norfolk but otherwise I have no idea what it could have been used for. Any ideas? pfrost Posted July 17, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 17, 2012 back I am not sure it is a naval wing. You would typically see an anchor on navy wings. Could be National Fuel Depot? Likely an ID badge of some sort. Neat. Patrick
CliffP Posted July 18, 2012 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2012 The Philadelphia Naval Yard is where the USN build aircraft during World War 1 and beyond The abbreviation 'NFD' on your badge could mean NAVY FUEL DEPOT - PHILADELPHIA. Makes sense. Cliff

CliffP Posted July 18, 2012 Share #6 Posted July 18, 2012 I thought of that too. But why not a navy wing? But it does look like a Navy wing. . . and that is what makes it a mystery.

John Cooper Posted July 20, 2012 Share #9 Posted July 20, 2012 Kinda reminds me of a civilian badge... maybe for a contractor? The style suggests to me pre-ww2 but the range is 1920's to 30's. Just some guess work on my part
