manayunkman Posted July 11, 2012 Author Share #51 Posted July 11, 2012 Lowe's K-BAR the gold digger. Here are some of the better souvenirs he got doing grave detail. Notice the cloth hat has a picture of the original owner that Lowe found in the soldiers pocket. It looks like two brothers. I opted to show the unbattle damaged side. I beg the Admin team to not delete this.

uplandmod Posted July 11, 2012 Share #56 Posted July 11, 2012 The canteen has a name on it, ends in "da" 田 Interesting to note is that he has his HBTs tucked in, something I don't think I've seen in Iwo pictures, I would have to check. manayunkman Posted July 11, 2012 Author Share #60 Posted July 11, 2012 The bottom of his sea bag. This was full of his blues and greens but they opted to hold on to them and let the HBT's go. It was one or the other so I took the HBT's.

manayunkman Posted July 11, 2012 Author Share #66 Posted July 11, 2012 The last picture. Lowe told me that his infantry LT was a jerk. He had not known him previously. There was a point that they came to a clearing. A small field. They got half way across it when a Japanese MG opened up on them. He saw the LT jump to the ground and try and hide behind a little rock. Even though their lives were threatened Lowe could help but laugh out loud. The site of a grown man ( that he didn't like ) trying to hide behind a rock the size of a soft ball was too much. Thats all Ladies and gents. I hope you like it as much as I do. Please post a comment. M

No I did not get pics of his uniforms. All I had in those days was a 35mm and I could hardly use it. Never mind take it on a call. Glad you like the group. Jack's Son Posted July 11, 2012 Share #69 Posted July 11, 2012 Manny, This is a fun group to have a beer over with the old man himself! Touch each piece and get HIS story of his career and how all of it came together. I'm sure you have, and will spend more time with him to get the most out of all of this. Thanks for your patients putting this all together!!
