WaA257 Posted June 30, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 30, 2012 This is in a local cemetery, the Wilmington and Brandywine Cemetery in WIlmington, DE. I know it's hard to read but it says 2nd Lt. John MacArthur, 27th Aero Squadron, 1st Pursuit Group A.E.F. Born Jan 14th 89, Killed in Action-France, Aug 9th 1918, An American Ace. I did some research that show he earned an DSC and had six kills. I never knew this was even in my state. There were also several KIA's from Gettsyburg and the Civil War and a weird one from a Navy guy who was killed serving with the Mexican Navy against Spain in 1828. Says he was killed by grapeshot. m1ashooter Posted June 30, 2012 Share #4 Posted June 30, 2012 Great find. It is stuff like this that keeps me checking back several times a day. A visit to a local cemetery is a great way to learn about history.
