docbutzen Posted June 22, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2012 I am building a few corpsman impression and I was given some criticism on the time period in which the plastic scabbard was used. I figured if they mk 1 and mk 2 knives both had their own plastic scabbard that it almost for sure would have been from the start. But I have never looked that much into it. Anyone know when the plastic scabbard started getting issued? Doc Butzen
SKIPH Posted June 22, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2012 DOC-For some reason or other I recall the MK2 fiber scabbard was adopted in 1944. But, I cannot find the reference at this moment. I would guess the MK1 was close to same time frame. SKIP
bayonetman Posted June 22, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 22, 2012 Most Mark 1 production was delivered in leather sheathes - the Mark 1 plastic sheath is relatively uncommon on the Mark 1 knife. Mark 2 production is about 50-50. Production of the Mark 2 plastic sheath began in mid-1944 as did the Mark 1s.
SKIPH Posted June 22, 2012 Share #4 Posted June 22, 2012 Gary-That's interesting on the Mk1 scabbard being relatively uncommon. I always thought the opposite. I have 10x Mk1 knives. Six came with Mk1s, three in leather, and one with a repro Camillus M3 leather sheath. Generally, when I see them on ebay, it looks pretty close to 50/50. Interesting! SKIP Yes it does seem as though the MK1 scabbards are pretty easy to find, leather seems a little more difficult.
