Designation history for that SSI from the US Army Institute of Heraldry-

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized for the Alaskan Defense Command on 24 Mar 1943. It was redesignated for the Alaskan Department on 31 Dec 1943. On 1 Mar 1949 the insignia was redesignated for Headquarters, U. S. Army Alaska. On 2 Dec 1968 the insignia was amended to delete the word "Headquarters".

Nice finds! You've got to love all of the polar bear variants!

If I have time later I will take pics of all my patches and related Alaska Defense items. I have a lot of different variants. Do you also collect Alaskan Defense?

Nice bag and all but......I love this guy's name! Freckleton! Makes for a wonderful nickname! "Freckles", "Freck", "Freckie". I like "Freckles" best. Really a cool name.

Very nice find!

I have problems displaying duffle bags.

Has anyone seen the white "T" shirts from this command? I had a photo collection once that was all WW2 and they were wearing those "T"s.

That is one slick duffle bag. I have never seen one like it. Do you have any of the helmet decals?

I don't have any of the loose decals, but I do have an original fixed bail helmet, painted white, with the polar bear decals on the front.
