Ricardo Posted June 6, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 6, 2012 Shortly before the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944, Radio Londres broadcast the first stanza of Paul Verlaine's poem "Chanson d'automne" to let the resistance know that Operation Overlord, the invasion, would begin within 24 hours. Les sanglots longs Des violons De l’automne Blessent mon cœur D’une langueur Monotone. Tomorrow will see some displays or groups about The Longest Day! Everyone is invited! BR, Ricardo I'll be displaying at Governor's Square in Middletown Ohio tomorrow evening... I believe the concert starts at 5pm... Eric Clapton and the Doors tribute bands will be playing. I'll have the majority of my display up. If anyone is in the area, feel free to stop by and say hello! Wayne Freedom isnt free... it must be paid for. Too often it is paid for by the blood of patriots. For those who have paid their share, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.

rrobertscv Posted June 6, 2012 Share #11 Posted June 6, 2012 This is Private John Baker, "Big Red One". A D-Day veteran, he was one of the youngest guys to ever sign a contract as a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals. During the Battle of the Bulge he was shot through the right hand and had to re-learn to do everything with his left hand. This ended his baseball career before it ever started. Everything but the hat is original to the uniform and just how his son gave it to me. Always looking for 70th Division(The Trailblazers) items or photos.
