Tonomachi Posted May 30, 2012 #1 Posted May 30, 2012 I picked this flag up at the flea market last Sunday for 7 dollars. It came with a very beat up 48 star US flag which supposedly came out of a storage locker belonging to an Army vet who served in Australia during WW2. This flag measures 42" by 64". The only marking is the letter "Y". Does anyone recognize this flag?
DutchInfid3l Posted May 30, 2012 #3 Posted May 30, 2012 Signal Flags According this this site, it's the letter "Y" as indicated by the marking. Also says the international meaning is "I'm dragging anchor"
Rakkasan187 Posted May 30, 2012 #4 Posted May 30, 2012 Navy Signal Flag for the Letter Y Leigh http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq101-1.htm
panzerbait Posted May 30, 2012 #5 Posted May 30, 2012 http://www.navy.mil/navydata/navy_legacy_hr.asp?id=273 Refer to this website. Depending on the time frame it either means YOKE or post 1957 it means YANKEE. Navy meaning is "I HAVE VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS ONLY" and the international meaning is "I AM DRAGGING ANCHOR." Hope this helps.
Jack's Son Posted May 30, 2012 #7 Posted May 30, 2012 It kinda matches your ribbon bar. Which begs the question: "Y"......don't you have more??? :laughing1:
