ccmax Posted January 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2007 Hello, What is the earliest dated photo of an M4 carbine with attachment for bayonet that you have seen? Not talking about the field improvised lugs but actual factory applied pieces. Regards Cesar.
BOB K. RKSS Posted January 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 9, 2007 Haven't seen a dated photo, but the m-4 carbine Bayonets should have first use in mid-1944.
Gliderinf Posted January 9, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 9, 2007 mid 45 in the US,(possibly) stop looking for an excuse
Greg Robinson Posted January 9, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 9, 2007 I've seen photos of the M4 bayonets in the field during WW2 since they replaced the M3 trench knife as a general purpose "bayonete-knife" and so was not necessarily intended to be used with the M1 Carbine. But the carbines with bayonet adapter didn't see field use until mid 1945, at the earliest. I've heard reports of some used on Okinawa, probably by Army troops since I seriously doubt the Marines got their hands of them that early. 2ad82recon Posted January 9, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 9, 2007 Hi Cesar..late February 1945 in Camp Maui on Hawaii..there is a picture of some Marine Officers in Harlan Glenns book on the USMC. But this is open to interpretation as the date is only speculative. The only one that carries any creedence is of Black Army troops on Okinawa in July 1945 ALL other photos after that are of Occupation Troops NO pictures have yet surfaced of ETO troops with bayonet lugs Regards LLoyd
Guest boyt44 Posted January 16, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 16, 2007 Here is a photo from "A Pictorial History of the Second World War", an 8-volume set published around 1946-47.
