124cav Posted May 23, 2012 #1 Posted May 23, 2012 found this pic on the home computer, dont know where i found it but thought it worth posting because of the kooky helmet cover anyone got ,ore pics of this suit?
'Flage Guy Posted May 23, 2012 #2 Posted May 23, 2012 In Forum member "General Apathy" 's great reference book "Doughboy to G.I.", there is a shot of a squad of guys suited up in these, with 'flaged faces and covered M17A1 Helmets. Yours was probably taken on the same day. In your photo, as well as the other, this Suit is fully reversible camo on both sides, and has 2 pockets on the green side instead of the 1-on-each-side on the camo-to-O.D. Suits. Also interesting is that it has plastic buttons on the pockets, and "donut" steel buttons on the front closure. Thanks for posting- the various 'flage-to-O.D. versions of these experimental Jungle Suits are plenty scarce, but this one is something else
Sabrejet Posted May 23, 2012 #3 Posted May 23, 2012 Great pic! Others can also be found in the Shelby Stanton WW2 book. The camo cover just doesn't work on an M-1917A1 does it?! But on an M-1...a wholly different matter!!

But on an M-1...a wholly different matter!! Ian that kooky cover was actually an experimental Camoflage Shower Cap that didn't take, so they put it to other uses.
124cav Posted May 26, 2012 Author #7 Posted May 26, 2012 Nice stuff anyone got more pics or surviving originals?
'Flage Guy Posted May 26, 2012 #8 Posted May 26, 2012 This isn't the first time I've posted this Suit, but it's the closest thing I know of to the one in the top photo. It's another one of the Army's 1942 experimental variants. As I said, I've seen at least 3 of the Jackets below in my lifetime, but never one like you've posted.
124cav Posted May 26, 2012 Author #9 Posted May 26, 2012 cool is it 2 layers or printed on one side thanks sam
'Flage Guy Posted May 26, 2012 #10 Posted May 26, 2012 Sam- The fabric is 'flage-printed on one side, and Olive Drab #5 on the other. There were also samples of this O.D.-to-camo combination with the tan "beach" camo instead of the jungle colors, as well as the other experimental patterns; one of our members recently pulled one from a Salvation Army outlet: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...howtopic=142662 Another example, this one a Smock... http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...showtopic=12086

'Flage Guy Posted July 7, 2012 #13 Posted July 7, 2012 Awesome Dont want to be nut buster but got any better pics of the pants? or a link to another thread?? Thanks Im loving what i see Sam: Darn; somehow I lost this thread, and didn't answer your question...sorry! Below are some close-ups of the pants...
'Flage Guy Posted July 7, 2012 #14 Posted July 7, 2012 The pocket layout on these- a slanted front patch pocket on front and a square patch on the rear at the opposite side, mirrored on the reverse side- is identical to the Marine Corp's 1942 'flage Trousers. The MCEB evidently went for this design, whereas the AGF modified their Jungle Suits with flap closures on all the pockets.
'Flage Guy Posted July 7, 2012 #15 Posted July 7, 2012 A view of the back; in these 2 shots, you can see the outline of the pockets on the reverse side.
124cav Posted July 8, 2012 Author #16 Posted July 8, 2012 phark yeah! awesome pics, thanks heeps the pic i just popped up before according to the signal corps tag is "us tank hunters model new sniping suits on maneuvers"

124cav Posted September 6, 2012 Author #20 Posted September 6, 2012 I like to think that i am for ww2 photos what you are to ww2 groups
kammo-man Posted September 6, 2012 #21 Posted September 6, 2012 And to think the Germans were 5 years ahead of this when the pictures were taken.
Guest Albert.oh Posted September 8, 2022 #22 Posted September 8, 2022 I remembered reading this thread a while back and wanting to share some photos of a set I found a few years ago now. I purchased from the original owners son he had hunted in one of the jackets for years and it even had deer blood on it. The pieces were really very special and fully reversible with many cool details. Ive included some of the pictures I took. Apologies for not great full photos these must've been all I had taken.
