ChrisNZ Posted May 20, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 20, 2012 Today we did a small display at the Warkworth Museum, located in Warkworth New Zealand, During WW2 at any one time there was up to 50,000 Americans based in New Zealand, Up in Warkworth there were camps for the 43rd and 25th and later the 3rd Marines, at the Museum they have a couple of the original huts that was used as accommodation in the camps of the area, we were joined my the Commemorative Airsoft New Zealand wing who display as the 43rd, we reenact the Third Marines as a side impression to out regular Europe based impression, here are a few photos from today and the past. In front of the original 4 man hut Here is a WW2 photo with the huts in the background On our way back we stopped at the Riverina the Riverina was the Warkworth Headquarters of the 43rd Division and the 25th Division, the photo on the left was taken during WW2 the one on the right was taken today. Here we are enjoying a beer on our way home In this photo the same building can be seen on the right as in the photo above. The rest of our display photos can be found here Warkworth Museum Display Gallery and for those who are interested here are a few photos of Americans in New Zealand during WW2 Americans in New Zealand Gallery

ChrisNZ Posted May 21, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted May 21, 2012 Unfortunately there isn't much left as most of the pictures are from the camps which have now gone, I didn't have my reference pictures when we went but we may make another trip when more of my groups vehicles are on the road and take a few more now and then snaps. squirrely Posted May 22, 2012 Share #6 Posted May 22, 2012 Wow, never seen those types of billets before! Thanks for sharing!Leonardo Nice! I showed my wife that picture and, without telling her anything else, asked her if the building looked familiar - she said it reminded her of the Howick historical society we visited while on our honey moon...and we're from the US! Even though none of the buildings there had a WWII theme, some things never change...

ChrisNZ Posted May 22, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted May 22, 2012 The huts were built here in New Zealand as kit sets from what I've been told they held 4 men each, the museum also has a 2 man one but we suspect its a cut down 4 man, here's some more pictures I'm sure I have some more somewhere, will post them up when I find them.
