Here is a great USN wave officers hat that I wanted to show before I move it along. This hat belonged to Captain Mary Ford Cannon. She served in both the army (Korea) and the navy (Vietnam). She earned several decorations including the bronze star. I believe the hat dates about 1967-1974. I am adding two links for anyone interested. The second link appears to show her wearing this hat.

The captain was not a WAVE. There was no such thing when she was in the US Navy.

"With the passage of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act (Public Law 625) on June 12, 1948, women gained permanent status in the armed services. To reflect this, the V9 and V10 Volunteer Reserve programs were discontinued and renamed the W9 Women's Officer Training and W10 Women's Enlisted Training programs. "
