Patriot Posted May 8, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 8, 2012 As it is today, Mt. Gilead, Ohio was not a large town in the post-Civil War years, so I am sure that GAR Post 114 didn't have a huge membership. When I had originally purchased this, I was a little disappointed to see that someone had marked the envelope in modern pen. What is interesting, however, is that the name that is penned on the original (and scarce) Whitehead & Hoag Company envelope checks out to be a Civil War veteran. I will post more information about William Irwin once I have confirmed a few details. Anyway, here is a minty double-sided GAR ribbon from a soldier from the Buckeye State, just as he had stowed it away a century ago!

KevinBeyer Posted May 10, 2012 Share #6 Posted May 10, 2012 That is an outstanding ribbon. The condition for its age is almost beyond belief. That is definitely one of the nicest I've ever seen. Kevin
