Catfishcraig Posted April 27, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2012 I used to send messages to sellers about these telling them that they are later replica's of the WWII version but I've since stopped. There are just too many showing up anymore. .

Ronnie Posted April 30, 2012 Share #7 Posted April 30, 2012 Actually. If they are gonna make up stuff....assuming the seller did, but maybe not, I don't know....they need to know their product. Since this is a late Kabar, vintage mid 70's or later their lie could have been that they had a knife and had Boyington sign it at an Air Show. I think Boyington died in the late 80's. So technically that could have happened. However I believe that if Pappy had signed it, he would have written VMA 214. IMO. Anyway it's too late to change your lie now cause you said it was a WWII. Sooooooo that's life in the eBay world.
m1ashooter Posted April 30, 2012 Share #8 Posted April 30, 2012 It will be interesting to see where this price goes. I just bid $31 just to have the blade. At that price it makes a great work shop tool.

To my mind, here or the knifeforms are the two best places to go when hoping to learn about edged weapons from collectors "in the know". 67Rally Posted April 30, 2012 Share #13 Posted April 30, 2012 I am watching this listing to gauge how much my authentic John Paul Jones MK2 fighting knife will go for. nuke41 Posted May 1, 2012 Share #15 Posted May 1, 2012 I emailed the seller, they said: "OK...That makes sense... Im offering full refund and relaying all the emails to the new owner...def dont wanna make anyone mad...I tried to revise the auction But cant because of bids...Thanks!" Of course they didnt change the ad, they are hoping for some idiot to pay them a fortune for it.
jim_mi Posted May 1, 2012 Author Share #16 Posted May 1, 2012 Well... I caved and sent a message to the seller re the (lack of) authenticity of his item. It just irritates me that someone who has no knowledge of these knives will buy it, thinking it really has historical value. Since he makes it sound as though I was the first to inform him of the late manufacturing date, I assume this is deliberate fraud. tomz*collectiblez* responded: "I have had several offers to buy this and end the listing! I have also had a couple telling me the sheath is new and now you saying the knife is a 1970's??? I tried to revise the auction BUT cant with bids...I will let it run then tell the buy all of your concerns! Report or whatever you wanna do...I appreciate your input...I have simply heard it is real and fake YET knowone has proved they are a specialist in the field... I dont know you nor do I know the others who have triend to buy it outright... Again I will relay all the info to the new owner...Thanks -tomz*collectiblez*
marr708 Posted May 1, 2012 Share #17 Posted May 1, 2012 I just read this guy's listing again. He has quite an imagination and weaves a wonderous tale. Fortunately, he has been caught in a lie and it is fun to watch him squirm. My motto : Never trust anyone who says "God Bless" at the the end of a ebay listing or any other sale. It is invariably is the catch phrase of a scoundrel.
sactroop Posted May 1, 2012 Share #18 Posted May 1, 2012 This knife has been sold and refunded at least once before. I think most reasonable people can make up their own minds regarding the character of the seller.

marr708 Posted May 2, 2012 Share #20 Posted May 2, 2012 Sorry guys, I'm not proselytizing, I'm just wary. It's just a knife, nothing significant in real life. I'm sorry if I sounded harsh. I don't want to deviate from the discussion.

SKIPH Posted May 5, 2012 Share #25 Posted May 5, 2012 I was buying those Kabars in the box around 1980-81 for $10-11. The boxes were as I recall white with the WW2 drawing info on them. Traded one for a nice WW2 Camillus USN MK2 w/ MK2 scabbard, the other I traded for a mint Camillus MC1, and a third I traded for a mint Conetta M4. Gave the Camillus MK2 to my younger brother after he graduated from jump school and came to Bragg. Still have the other two knives. But, $411 for a repro? Insanity reigns!
