Sabrejet Posted April 24, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2012 The parallel thread illustrating M1s with metal insignia has had a good response so let's throw the net a little wider to include examples of M1s / liners with painted rank insignia as there are doubtless more examples of that type anyway! This can also include rank decals, bars cut from medical tape or "scratched" into the paintwork etc. as well! Thank you. Lieutenant-Colonel. ken88 Posted April 24, 2012 Share #18 Posted April 24, 2012 I don't have it anymore, but thought I'd post it anyway. It's now in the possession of the American Battle Monuments Commission and ended up in the right spot. It was the only helmet with painted rank I had though Its owner, First Lieutenant William Thomas Wilson, was killed @ Noirefontaine, Belgium in January of 1945. He was a stovepipeboy in HQ/2 of 505 PIR 82nd airborne. The poor guy ended up in a German mass grave before being brought to the cemetery @ Henri-Chapelle in Liège, Belgium. Lest we forget.
