Got an email from one of my friends trying to identify this piece... She says it belongs to her daughter and its very old. She doesnt know the size either but from her daughter's description its not very big. I was thinking maybe cap pin for a cadet or something but havent been able to find anything like it. Can anyone help ID this?

Looks like the centrepiece of a USN overseas cap badge. They were of two part construction...the eagle and shield in silver, the anchor and rope in brass or gilt metal.
