Gerradtgrant Posted September 14, 2020 Share #55 Posted September 14, 2020 This is a recent flea market find. This is only the second time I have seen the parachute rigger qualification tile, which doesn't mean much. Is it a more rare one to find. Old Marine Posted September 14, 2020 Share #56 Posted September 14, 2020 I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the Rigger bar. Sometimes you get lucky.

Reforger Posted November 14, 2020 Share #58 Posted November 14, 2020 Parachute rigger is definitely not that common. A good find in nice condition!
Gerradtgrant Posted December 31, 2020 Share #59 Posted December 31, 2020 Here is ladder of them I have had for some time, going through some stuff and came across them. Honestly forgot I had them. Missing a few but, almost instant collection. Unfortunately, I only have the one prop badge. About half are marked sterling, the other half no mark at all. All appear to be the normal (Small) size. AAF Uniform Posted May 18, 2021 Share #60 Posted May 18, 2021 Sorry for replying to an old thread, but I am looking for some help regarding this topic. I am trying to complete a display of my grandfather's AAF uniform and would like some help regarding the technician qualification badge on his uniform. I am assuming at some point the qualification bar fell off (or was removed) because as you can see, only the badge portion remains. He served in the Air Transport Command and was a LINK trainer technician. My two questions are: 1. Was the qualification badge issued without qualification bars as shown on the uniform now or should it always have at least one bar? and if not, 2. Does anybody have a source for a LINK TRAINER INSTR. qualification bar for sale to match this badge? FYI, I have not removed anything from the uniform so have not looked at the back of the badge for any ID marks.

My dad told me this was the cheaper version available at the PX made of lead rather then silver. They had the same thing for marksman badges at the time. At times I’ve lost hope of ever finding all 27 different bars and put them aside only to pull them back out and resume the hunt. I recently found the Parachute Rigger bar. I now lack only four bars. I’m throwing myself at the mercy of the forum to see if any member can help. I need the Bombsight Mech., Radio V-1 Mech., Radio V-1 Obs. And the RC Turret Mech. bars. If you have these or know of a source please let me know. I don’t expect them for free. Thanks - Tinman That's a nice collection. I'm working on mine. I have a bunch of badges but not enough bars . Tinman Posted July 27, 2021 Author Share #68 Posted July 27, 2021 I recently (5 months ago) completed my my collection of qualification bars. The hardest was the RC Turret Mech. I'd been looking, literally, for years. I was at a friends house looking through a box of odds and ends and there it was! He let me have very reasonably. I also picked up some of the post war helicopter Crew Chief bars.
mikie Posted July 27, 2021 Share #69 Posted July 27, 2021 Congratulations on completing your collection. An impressive accomplishment. I know very little about these so have to ask... What do the abbreviations AP and SP stand for? In fact, about all I know about these is what I learned here. Thanks for the edumacation. Scott C. Posted August 22, 2021 Share #72 Posted August 22, 2021 Just curious . . . - What does the "V1" stand for on the "Radio V1 Mech" and "Radio V1 Obs" AAF qualification bars? - What does the "ACS" stand for on the "ACS Radio Sp" AAF qualification bar? Many thanks.
Stan53 Posted September 22, 2021 Share #73 Posted September 22, 2021 Hi all. I am looking for a Gemsco AAF Technician Badge. flypa38 Posted November 29, 2022 Share #75 Posted November 29, 2022 I just joined and posted a question about tech badges (probably in the wrong forum) and then I found this thread. Reposting my question here since it looks like you guys may know the answer! Trying to recreate my grandfather's uniform from WW2. Best we've been able to find out, he was a radar mechanic serving with the 385th Bomb Group. His discharge paper says: Military Qualifications - "AAF Tech Badge with Radio & Radar Mechanic Bar". Service schools - "Radar Mechanic Boca Raton Fla., Radio Operator and Mechanic Scott Field I'll, College Training Air Crew Madison Wis." So which bars would be right for the tech badges? Would it be Radio operator or radio Mechanic, and haven't been able to find anything regarding the Radar mechanic. Any help is appreciated!
