C500 Posted April 26, 2019 Share #226 Posted April 26, 2019 I bought a beauty a few years ago. 2nd model. I got her home and realized the blade is cracked from the base right up past the etching and ends right at the top of the etching.
thorin6 Posted June 5, 2019 Share #227 Posted June 5, 2019 Thought I would post my two FS knives, a Type 2 and Type 3. Neither knife or sheath for each is marked with ENGLAND indicating they are not English exports. The Type 3 with the machine ground blade I picked up at a militaria show a while back, while the Type 2 came from another forum. The seller of the Type 2 told me he bought it in Italy while I have no information on the Type 3. Here is the two in their sheaths. The sheath with the Type 3 was with the knife when I bought it, the sheath for the Type 2 I purchased separately:
thorin6 Posted June 5, 2019 Share #228 Posted June 5, 2019 Here are the blades and sheaths, front and back. The blade on the Type 2 has been refinished at some point, but still shows the flats from being hand ground. The Type 3 doesn't show the flats indicating it has been machine ground. thorin6 Posted June 5, 2019 Share #229 Posted June 5, 2019 Here are the marks on the Type 3, the mold number for the handle and the proof marking under the arrow:
thorin6 Posted June 5, 2019 Share #230 Posted June 5, 2019 Finally, the arrow-B2, although the 2 is almost invisible and only part of the arrow still shows. The odd part is that the arrow B2 is on the blade side of the guard, which may indicate that the knife was disassembled to refinish the blade and was reassembled with the arrow-B2 mark on the wrong side. Or it's possible that the mark was just applied to the blade side. Again, neither knife has ENGLAND stamped on the guard and the sheath's don't have the ENGLAND stamp either. MKnopfler Posted June 22, 2021 Share #232 Posted June 22, 2021 Case made a really nice reproduction a few years ago. I picked one up because I've always loved the design and I wasn't disappointed.

dcollector Posted July 16, 2022 Share #234 Posted July 16, 2022 I see the OP is sadly deceased, but perhaps there are others also interested in these English fighters: Here is my newly acquired First pattern (on the right) with three salty shipmates. opseccc Posted August 23, 2022 Share #235 Posted August 23, 2022 I am interested in these knives! Some of mine. The knife in the last pic has a similar look to the Shanghai fighting knives. I do not know much about it other than it was from a WWII Army Veteran who had passed and his wife gave it to me. It is heavy though.
dcollector Posted August 24, 2022 Share #236 Posted August 24, 2022 That is a really excellent collection, Opsecc, Very very nice examples of some rare blades. Love that shortened dagger, they say Fairbairn carried a shortened one when he gave his self defense/offense classes. Thanks for sharing the pics, Jesse
dcollector Posted October 3, 2022 Share #237 Posted October 3, 2022 Just got back from the UK, added two more to the collection of First Pattern Fairbairn Sykes, these are my favorite thing to collect.

DBURDBUSH45 Posted November 6, 2022 Share #239 Posted November 6, 2022 Greeting! I have just recently begun down this path of collecting FS knives having acquired a 3rd pattern in what I would consider excellent condition. This is probably going to get a “bad” for my bank account. Is there a certain “price range” that each of the differing patterns of these knives goes for? Obviously condition plays a considerable factor. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
dcollector Posted November 6, 2022 Share #240 Posted November 6, 2022 That is a nice looking wartime third pattern. Nice blade, too. Looks like it hasn't been messed with.
VNAMVET70 Posted November 6, 2022 Share #241 Posted November 6, 2022 DBURDBUSH45, The two books at the top of the photo have helped me tremendously in learning about WWll Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knives. Ron Flook's book is more of a library research reference book. Wolfgang Peter-Michel's book is an excellent coffee table book....lot's of colorful pictures. DBURDBUSH45 Posted November 7, 2022 Share #242 Posted November 7, 2022 VNAMVET70, your assistance is greatly appreciated! Pertinent literature is invaluable in this collecting arena, thank you! I have a feeling this knife “addiction” is bound to get up there with the M3’s that I have.
opseccc Posted November 18, 2022 Share #243 Posted November 18, 2022 DBURDBUSH45, I always liked the lesser seen guard style on your knife. It has the guard that has parallel sides (pill shaped) as opposed to the more common "American football" shape. Almost always with a machine ground blade and larger dome shaped pommel nut. There are so many variations and so many anomalies. Enjoy FS collecting.
dcollector Posted January 1, 2023 Share #244 Posted January 1, 2023 Added some more First patterns to the collection. 2022 saw additions from: 3X United Kingdom (See close ups.) 1X USA (strange oversized blade.) 1X France (Interesting defaced etch.) *Added some really nice 2nd and 3rd pattern wartime knives, too.
