I know this is an old thread but has anyone else seen the above vest?

This one looks like it was cut apart and sewn in a 41 pattern shirt.

I have a complete vest made out of these pockets with the inserts.

I remeber P-E wrote below message :

Hello hello,

Realy beautiful item ! It's the "Pattern 1941 Armored Utility Jacket" with DORON plates. The jacket is the "P41", but modified to add plates (in 1943-44). Around 2000 sets were produce for the 2nd Marines Regiment, 2nd Marines Division in Okinawa.

The plates aren't in ceramique or steel, they are in DORON (soms called DURON) : it's a sort of white glass fiber and plastic laminate (exactly : Glass, polycarbonate or acrylic plastic and a laminated layer of polyvinyl butyryl  :pinch:). It offers good protection against low velocity projectiles, but not agains rifle calibres.

I hope this helps.

regards,

Pierre-Emmanuel

Nice!  I wanted to add, in 1945 a general experimented with plate glass and doron, and was able to make a "torso shield" that stopped .3006 that gave part way to the development of the full torso shield In early 60, which then was antifragment before 66 when Natick and aerojet fully came together . I could go on for hours, I'll write it out sometime

I have some more experimental vests and things that I need to post sometime soon, I could write pretty things on each.

Please share it all if time permits: this thread started in 2006, when this forum was less than two months old, but even now it remains an informative archive and anything that expands on the topic is more than welcome.

For future , would you permit me to post it here and also do separate posts?

I'll be posting my experimental vests and info and ect in the very near future, like within a month. I'm a full time college student so time doesn't always give me leniency.
