General Apathy Posted December 8, 2023 #24751 Posted December 8, 2023 . A really wild shot at a Then & Now . . . . . . . . . . hahaaa driving along a few days ago I thought I might be looking at the location of a photograph of General Patton in one of his Jeeps. There's not really enough background to compare, all I could recall was the road sloped, the corner of a barn and a telegraph post close to the corner of the building, and knowing that Patton had visited the area. Post war a replacement telegraph post could have been moved closer to the corner of the building for protection from passing vehicles. Norman D. General Apathy Posted December 8, 2023 #24753 Posted December 8, 2023 . Word of warning to car owners, especially collectors cars not regularly used. Winters here. The latest small electronic battery chargers WILL NOT recharge a TOTALLY FLAT BATTERY, they are designed to continually trickle charge batteries whilst the car sits unused in a garage. If the battery is fully discharged the electronics does not register it as a discharged battery, and there has to be some minor charge in the battery for it to register as a battery with the electronics or it shows ' FAULT ' and refuses to charge. So I suggest never throw away older battery chargers if they still work, they will put charge into any discharged battery. Should a battery be totally discharged then it needs some charge put into it from the older style battery chargers to initiate the electronic charger. If the battery is totally discharged and you don't have an old style charger then connect it to a charged battery for a short while using jumper leads sufficient for the electronic charger to register some charge of a depleted battery and kick the electronic charger Into charging. I'm very lucky to have a separate building in the garden which houses the Jeep, bicycles and the entire collection.... Hence "War Building"...

My dear daughter is getting married in a little over a year and I had dreams of commandeering her room once she moved out. But the housing market is suddenly looking very bad. So we are all looking for alternatives, such as the possibility of them staying with us for a while or building a “Granny unit” in the back. My invalid Mother-in-law’s old room here is empty since she is now staying with my brother-in-law. But she may need to move back in sometime so can’t do much with it now. In the meantime, I have drastically reduced collecting activities due to lack of space. Except for things that are just too cool to pass up (in other words, I really have not). mikie

Marshallj Posted December 11, 2023 #24774 Posted December 11, 2023 I have a 4bedroom house with a basement and two car garage. My eldest son got divorced and moved back home. He brought his half of their belongings. During Covid my in-laws passed within months of each other. We “inherited” a lot of their belongings. I personally have a small amount of closet space for my stuff.

For me collecting and the collection have always been a refuge of distraction from reality that has helped get through some rough times. Hope things work out for you. I do have a small corner in the garage, and have stuff squeezed in various nooks and crannies. So the idea of a war building or even a room is a nice dream. mikie
