General Apathy Posted May 6, 2023 Share #23477 Posted May 6, 2023 hi everyone, thanks for the cover while I am off line, this is from my cell phone, so it’s one finger typing rather than both hands on the keyboard of my laptop. Phone company said as it’s a holiday weekend in France work starts again Tuesday so I live in hope of being back as normal after Tuesday. in the meantime I have pulled out a pair of vintage 50’s coveralls in preparation for this year’s vintage car shows and the beach races later this year. General Apathy Posted May 7, 2023 Share #23480 Posted May 7, 2023 . collectors car show today . . . . there was a classic car show in Ste Mere Eglise today so I took the opportunity of wearing my vintage 1950’s coveralls. Several owners congratulated me on the coveralls. It was quite funny today one guy with a restored 1940’s Chevrolet pickup is always difficult to engage in conversation, never worked out if he is aloof or shy anyway the tables were turned today the coveralls were the ice-breaker, he loved the period styling which would have gone well with his civilian truck. NDL Correspondent April 07 2023 Great photo! Always good to see vintage stuff being used (but hopefully not abused). Your story reminds me of my old pal Jordan. He was a young kid I hired at my old job way back in the late 1980s. Excellent worker but kept himself to himself and was difficult to get to engage in non work conversation. That all changed the day I wore my then new Doctor Who T-shirt to work. He started glowing the second he saw it. Turns out he was an even bigger Dr Who fan than I was. As you said, it broke the ice and we were still friends till we lost track of each other about 10 years ago.

I definitely find it harder to use the forum on my cell phone and wish for a fast return to normality and using my laptop. I just wanted to add a multi-post to this post and tried more than several times with failed results. anyway it was all to do with throw outs in mikes neighbourhood and Peter finding stuff dumpster diving. A few days ago there were several finds at the village dump, I grabbed a bunch of things , four pieces I gave to friends I thought would like them. Today I attached the few pieces I kept to an unused telegraph pole in my garden, as they came from telegraph poles. The two glass insulators are French 1923 dated ( US ones dated 42 / 43 can often be found in Normandy ). The other two items ‘ risk of death ‘ warnings, the top one more modern plastic and the lower one a cracked metal one. I thought they added some life to an abandoned pole. I've only been to the Detroit area very briefly on a detour going to a training class in Dayton, Ohio about 20 years ago. I have an old friend who lives there I really wanted to see again. I didn't have a chance to look around but I was really impressed by the Rock radio stations around there and on the drive up from Dayton. We are down to 2 rock stations in the SF Bay area and both stink and have for years. Mikie
