Really happy to finally receive the Ford script Holden modified body tub! Just need an early rolling chassis to put it on....! It has detail on it that my 1944 example doesn't, so a great item to have... I just need to convince my better half at home.....!

Hi Graham,

Good luck with the rebuild, appears you are assembling enough parts to make choices. Amazing that when they chopped the rear to make a door they kept the original piece and used it again, nice to see the FORD logo retained.

Looks like Gunji has a nose for vintage vehicles. He found another one this evening!  I think I may have posted this one before a while ago. But I haven’t seen it in a long time. Gunji certainly hasn’t.

Hi Mikie,

about six years or so ago one of my UK Jeeping friends told me he would be selling these two vehicles due to a degenerative illness with his legs and climbing in and out was becoming a bit of a problem. Anyway I didn't consider doing anything for some time but having sold my American pick-up due to being unable to register into the French system I wanted another, and an older pick-up would be easier to get into the system as it didn't need to conform to modern requirements.  Well I left it too long and he had sold it to a local farmer who sadly treated it as a farm hack and left it stood outside all the time, shortly paint started to flake off and rust appear, the farmer was interested in selling it but wanted double what he paid for it despite the deterioration, I passed on buying it.  The good news was that the original owners nephew bought it and has completed a total nut and bolt strip and restoration including acquiring new old stock pieces from the States so it's in tip top condition once again, cherished and garaged.

While looking through files to find the photo of the Jeep and pick-up used in the previous post, I found this other image taken from the annual calendar of the Ste Mere Eglise fire brigade, appears that they are still using stocks of WWII American ' Impregnite Shoe MI '. So much equipment produced during WWII  a lot still around eighty years later.

1942 Crated Jeeps for £750 UK pounds . . . . . . . . . Form a line, no pushing. !!!!

sorting through old vehicle papers last night I pulled out this torn page of Jeep adverts from the 1970's,  I remember it being a SCAM

trying to take money off gullible people. At the time I think running road usable Jeeps were selling about £100 / £200, so the advert stated £750 which would have sounded quite reasonable IF there were actually any crated Jeeps.

Note at the top of the page a second-hand E-Type Jaguar priced at £250 . . . . . . . . . those were the days . . . . . . . .

My friend Robert a frequent forum poster ' LtRGFRANK ' here on this thread asked me to add photos of his Canteen collection.

When I get the opportunity I still have to add a post about canteens from Jeeping friend Len, another frequent contributor.

Unfortunately, it is increasingly difficult to find equipment. The houses are emptying, a lot of material finished at the dump. The best deal I made was to go out 10 meters from my house, my Chauchat in cal. 30.06.

From the Shoebox . . . . . .

Most collectors are aware of or own a model of the  U.S. G.I. angle-head flashlight ( TL-122, A, B, C, or D ) I consider myself extremely lucky to have found some years ago an original first pattern TL-122 made by ' Eveready ', the all-metal angle design is totally different to all the following A, B, C, D, models. I would be interested in any other members who also have one, sadly never traced any information as to their first date used.

Oooh boy! From canteens to flashlights! I’m in heaven here.  Simple non glamorous items that I love.
I only have a few I’ve picked up cheap at garage sales. But am always on the lookout for more.

This one is new to me. But then that is to be expected from Ken.

Let’s see more!

Hi Mikie.

Your wish is my command, From the Shoebox . . . . .

Although this is a model TL-122 suffix ' B ' it has a totally different switch to most other makes of model ' B's ', it has a moulded plastic switch containing ball-bearings as part of the switch mechanism made by ' Micro-Lite Inc ' .

A lot of these early plastics suffered with a white wax covering I believe from the Phenol gases extruding from the plastic, it is none-hazardadous to the object and can be cleaned off but will often resurface again.

Hi Mikie,

Your wish is my command, From the Shoebox . . . . . . . .

This one is a regular model TL-122 suffix ' C ',  nothing particularly different to any other TL-122.C models except it's commercially boxed.  I believe that several companies ended up commercially boxing products they had manufactured during WWII, maybe left over cancelled stocks at wars end.  Or maybe sold through PX stores like this as the small images on either side show military or civilian use.

A lot of these early plastics suffered with a white wax covering I believe from the Phenol gases extruding from the plastic, it is none-hazardadous to the object and can be cleaned off but will often resurface again.

I’m at work now but found this photo of some items I found at a garage sale by sheer coincidence exactly 3 years ago today! A great little haul for under $5 total. A WWII flashlight AND a 1945 Volrath canteen! The flashlight has USN molded into it but this is the second one I have found with the “N” nearly gone. Strange. Both are different models that I have picked up at different places. there is no sign of any physical action removing the N, they are just very very low profile compared to the US lettering. Strange. Anyone else see this?

Hi Mikie, I love yard sailing and can’t wait until the season starts here.

You found some hot items, what’s the USN box for?

I guessed at the time that it was a soap box. Experts here on the forum far wiser than I am have confirmed it.

I agree about the yard sale hunting. Lots of fun and you never know what you will find. That staple gun isn’t military , but it dates to the 50s/60s and works perfectly. Just what I needed around the house. I went to this one on a Sunday and everything was priced half off! Got the box and trowel for 50 cents each. Everything else was a buck each! It was a happy day.

Hi Ken, I was searching a website looking at Corpsman items (!), and having seen your post here, this caught my eye. It is listed as a civilian model 122 - no TL or suffix. Manufacturer 'GITS'? All new to me!

Cheers!

Hi Graham,

yes I have seen these over the years but never considered them WWII military,  color and quality of the material, and the clip and switch being chromed not blackened as all the regular TL-122's were. I feel that many years ago I had a lead on what they were but time and lack of interest has led me to forget the ' story ' of them.
