Johan Willaert Posted December 23, 2022 Share #22526 Posted December 23, 2022 For quite a while now I've had this unusual brass (Jeep type) shovel in my collection and although I always expected it to be a shovel used in demining or explosive related issues (because brass is spark free), I could never find any reference for it. This morning one of my FB friends and forum member zepher11 posted this WW2 photo of a group of Navy men graduating from Bomb Disposal School in 1943 and said shovels are in the photo... Hi Johan, excellent find both in the shovel and now the information regarding the shovel, I have often said that there is now more information out there being shared by use of the internet. Even having collected for all the years I have I have never seen a brass shovel, fantastic. Here's a report I posted October 29 2017. regarding a shovel I saw for sale marked HMS Bulldog, I had never seen a shovel marked with a British ship before, didn't take me long to find out the back-story on the shovel markings through the internet. General Apathy Posted December 26, 2022 Share #22546 Posted December 26, 2022 . Christmas Day Blues ( monsoons ) . . . . . . . All Christmas Eve I had plans running through my mind for a pleasant ride out on a bright sunny dry Christmas Day, however when daylight arrived it was possible to see the monsoon rainfall and flooded garden, fields and roads. While I would normally drive with some rainfall I didn't see any benefit in leaving the Jeep parked in the heavy downfall of rain for two hours while we sat drinking coffee and talking rubbish. So we arranged to meet in our cars, Serge and Celine opened the bar at 10h00 and we sat for our first coffee. Serge showed me the latest pieces he had received for the rebuild of the Jeep he bought last year, he likes me to pass comment, followed by Serge handing us free tee shirts ( with bar adverts ). TODAY 26th, it's bright sunshine, pleasantly warm and bone-dry weather, sadly too late to arrange another rendezvous for today. Also today came the news of the death on Christmas Eve of the oldest longtime member of the original Military Vehicle Conservation Group John Marchant who joined in 1972. When John served in the army he was driving the marques of WWII vehicles that he would later collect for his personal collection. Norman D.
