Thursday 20th of November was my daughters wedding . . . .

It was a beautiful day in so many ways, the ceremony, the reception, the hotel, the food, the family and friends that attended . . . . . my daughter and partner.

Hi Graham.

nice can,  I don't have one, I also think there might be a USAAF version of it,  yes it appears that the USN one should be painted all over, heres one I have in my files.

Thanks for the photo Ken. Yes, I have just looked and seen the Air Force equivalent! I love this hobby, as I had no knowledge on these, now eagerly reading up on them!!

I will set about restoring this one back to OD.

Cheers!

Thanks for the image, never seen it before they are painting the one-piece cast grenades, I have an unpainted one in my collection.

The Flying Scotsman steam locomotive . . . . .

A few days ago one of my London Jeeping friends went to see the Flying Scotsman making an appearance in London. Built in 1923 at a cost of £8,000 pounds, it was the first steam locomotive to officially pass 100 MPH in 1934.  Between 1969 & 1972 it toured the USA.

That's what I thought they were but wasn't sure. Dad had one that we used to play with when we were kids.

Wonderful!

Tis the season to get married, I guess. Heading to Georgia for my niece's wedding in less than 2 weeks. Right about the time of my parents anniversary.  Always remember Dad saying that their wedding fell on opening day of deer season. That didn't stop him from going out. all in all , probably a good thing the deer were not cooperating that day.

Somehow I expected a wedding dress made of parachute silk but this one looks great too!

Congratulations on your daughter’s wedding, beautiful bride, and very proud Dad!  Did they exit the church in a Ford Jeep, dragging a long line of canteen cups?

Hi BryanJ.

well you are close to a truth here,  one of the friends and his wife at the wedding started by being a visitor to my store , he came in to buy a new unused cork for his canteen and left £250 lighter after I showed him some of the equipment in store. He later became a valued friend ( he also owns a Jeep ), best of this story is that he freely relates and amuses other collectors with his story .

Lewis.  I suspect if all your US forum friends pulled up stakes and moved to Normandy, we’d all buy a Jeep, and you’d have an entire squadron of weekend warriors to deal with.  We’d be a rowdy group too!

It being the 78th anniversary of the battle of Leyte Gulf, thought I'd share this US Navy flat hat I have.  I tracked the sailor's name, Dave Turetsky, to serving on the USS Tennessee for just about the entire war.  The Tennessee saw action in the Surigao Strait section of the battle and was one of the last battleships in history to fire on another battleship.

The other picture is of a hat named to J W Norwood.  My research showed him serving on the light cruiser USS Boise during the same battle.  I have no proof that these hats were there at the time, but it is certainly quite possible that they were.

The other items in my displays, including the portrait, are not theirs, but reflect their ratings and ships.

Captured Enemy Material . . . . . . .

An interesting photo showing a captured German half-track being off-loaded onto flat barge, the name on the flat barge appears to be ' McCormack ', I would probably think this would be an American company, but look for confirmation of that.

Ken,

Moore-McCormack was a shipping and passenger line that operated from 1913-1982.  One of it's subsidiaries was McCormack Steamship Company. Regarding it's WWII service I quote from it's Wikipedia page.  "During wartime, the McCormick Steamship Company operated Victory ships and Liberty ships. The ships were run by its McCormick Steamship Company crew and the US Navy supplied United States Navy Armed Guards to man the deck guns and radio. The most common armament mounted on these merchant ships were the MK II 20mm Oerlikon autocannon and the 3"/50, 4"/50, and 5"/38 deck guns."  The McCormack Steamship Company lost 3 ships during the war.  All had been torpedoed.
