Well, at least your hole is round... mine seems to be made of 4 smaller drilled holes and a hacksaw 😋

On this 1942 GPW45404, the hole is as crooked as on mine...

We discussed it here before, but I would like to change the home-made wireloom (made with plastic wires) for a more correct one, but I need to figure out how to make a few changes, such as indicator lights and that we used the front BO lights for parking lights (all obligatory under Dutch law)...

.

Hi earlymb,

This is a selection of wiring from Jeepest ( most dealers ) and would  include indicators if you request them . . . .  . . . . .

I found that the only manufacturer who makes early wiring harnesses wwith correct metal braiding AND wihout the trailer socket is Darcy Miller from MV Spares...

Their kist are being sold in France by JeepSudEst...

I wouldn't wait too long as Darcy has told me he will be retiring in the not so distant future...

pleased that thirty-five years ago there was still original wiring to be had, and I also got extra's of the the metal-braiding wiring as well.

Some other ' F ' marked Ford GPW parts  . . . . . .

Thanks for the links, I'm leaning towards the MV Spares one as I will need to make modifications for the indicators anyway

I would make a completely separate loom for the indicators… easy to remove if you or next owner should want so

i was thinking along those lines indeed, make it look like a field mod. The correct type of wire is available now. The rear indicators are the B/O slits in the rear lights, front ones are separate and mounted to the side of the grill under the fenders.

Another,  why did I never think of this months ago . . . . . . . . .

It's approaching three months I think since we last had rain here in my area of Normandy, and during this period the temperatures have been almost consistently around the 40 degrees Celsius or mid 40's.  Driving home today I turned into the drive parked the car under the shade and without any great forethought opened the engine hood. Well the heat under the hood dissipated almost straight away and the electric fan stopped fairly instantaneously instead of running on for some minutes, seems to have been a good idea methinks . . . . . . . . I later checked the oil and water levels before closing the hood and garaging it.

It certainly did some traveling!  Interesting that it was British made for Russia in 1940.  1941, ok, but 1940 seems like aiding the enemy a bit.

Hi Mikie,

Records show America, Germany and Britain were all supplying Russia with all sorts of commercial and military equipment throughout the 1930's, it was a massive market without an industrial base mainly based on peasant agriculture. Britain was already at war with Germany from September 1939, so Russia was a possibly an ally against Germany.

Once again we were all supplying Russia before they stepped on Ukraine soil . . . . . . . . .

an aerial shot of Omaha beach 1947, the line of sunken blockade ships can be seen out to sea, note the waves on the seaward side and the calmer water between the ships and the beach.  Also bottom centre of the photograph there are still damaged and abandoned vehicles and landing craft on the beach.
