Hi Kat, Early WWII the US Army had the standard gas cans but no design had been given to a specific water can ( large cam operated lid ) until later so normal gas cans with the screw cap were galvanised for water use, here galvanised ones can be seen with a large letter ' W ' stencilled on the sides. His favorite story was getting to meet "Old Man Mcilhenny", head of the Mcilhenny Tabasco pepper sauce company. Dad had a bottle of that sauce at his place at the dinner table for as long as I can remember. Every once in a while he would pick it up and say "Did I ever tell you about the time I met Old Man Mcilhenny?" Mikie

I still use the old tried and tested method of bleeding the Jeep brakes as recommended in TM 9-803 Jeep manual. Normally when we are not using the bleed tube we store it for years coiled up in a tool drawer or such. When it comes time to use it, it can be hands on trying to keep it straight and stop it from re-curling out the jar when the end should be under a level of fluid in the bleed jar / bottle. So I use a thin piece of wire inserted in the tube and it will stand straight on it's own without fighting with it, and still supple enough to bend as needed. One hand to secure it on the bleed nipple and the other to operate the wrench . . . . . . Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, May 09 2022. ... Hi Johan, this is another image that I have in my files but couldn't find it last week when you added the shot of the can on the rear of your Jeep, I do prefer it on your Jeep more so than the previous can you were carrying. Here's another early shot showing the new style ' US Blitz ' can and it's predecessor the round drum style which were rather more difficult to transport around. . Norman D. General Apathy Posted May 13, 2022 Share #20798 Posted May 13, 2022 . Another warning anecdote . . . . . . . . . . back a couple of weeks ago I mentioned three people using electric cutting devices that experienced accidents resulting in hospital visits and stitches, fortunately no lost fingers or long term damage. Yesterday I heard of an acquaintance who was cutting his lawn for the first time this year with his sit-on mower, as the grass was quite tall he had the cutting deck high and somehow he stood close to the mower and his toes went under the cutting deck, he's in quite a bad way and still in hospital awaiting assessments on his feet . . . . . . . . another warning to us all to use care.
