Jeep Cranking Handles & Unidentified Handles . . . . . . . .

From the Shoebox, I have seven handles the overriding fact is they all measure the same dimensions in length and bends. The top four are identified as being Jeep, no markings can be found on the lower three so they remain a mystery, number five has a ' Jeep ' sized wheel socket attachment.  ( All seven came from military surplus stocks )

Interestingly the two Ford stamped ones are stamped in opposite directions !!!!!!

#1. Ford marked in ( Cosmoline wrap remains )

#2. Ford marked.

#3. WOA ( Willys Overland America )

#4. G-503 marked ( wire rotating grip )

#5. Unidentified ( Jeep wheel socket on grip )

#6. Unidentified ( metal rotating tube on grip )

#7. Unidentified ( metal rotating tube on grip.

hahahaaa,  thanks for pointing that out,  I shall be out the house at sparrows-fart in the morning ( May 1st ) there's a Militaria meet just up the road and I like to be anywhere / everywhere as the doors open . . . . . .  early bird etc, etc.

back in the day in the 1970's I used to arrive at the same time as the dealers and carry a pile of boxes in ( empty but looking heavy ) following closely on the heals of a real dealer, never got stopped and always beat my friends waiting in the line for opening time . . . . . . . . . 🙀 Bugga did I just admit to that . . . . . . . . life's a bunch of anecdotes . . . . . . . . . . 😇 / 😈

Hi Rene,

it's a bit of a negative comment about an early start to the day, a more polite way would be up with the  ' Dawn-Chorus ' involving early birds out greeting one another . . . . .

If we are discussing public art that doesn't quite get the viewer's admiration, here is a story of our famed giant doggie poop statue here in San Jose, California.  OK, it's not really supposed to be doggie poop.  But from some angles it certainly looks like it.   It's supposed to be the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl. No really!

I don't know squat about modern art. But this artist apparently does know squat about it.

From a distance it looks like a tree.

Then I realized I wasn’t looking at a pleasant scenic photo.

Where is this statue?

Uh, it could also be a person in an 'Asian Squat' position (no poop implied here), it's a real thing that folks who've traveled in SE/SW Asia would know well.

When we were fixing the wheels on the B-25, A Canadian friend said the bearings were drier than a popcorn fart. I laughed so hard he still mentions that phrase every so often.  Must be something with all of you having great phrases.

This statue is on the outskirts of Lelystad in the Netherlands. I'm quite sure it wasn't the artist's intent to depict a no.2 in progress but like Mikie I don't know diddly squat about modern art either.

The real reason for being there was this:

DSC_7612.JPG.e9eae0a41cfdab0777163137acfbc084.JPG

A replica of a Dutch VOC (armed)freight ship called the Batavia. The orginal was built between 1627 and 1628. This replica took a little longer. It was build between 1985 and 1995.

Hi earlymb,

well I forgot to say that handle #4 is the one I carry in the Jeep should it disappear or be lost it wouldn't be like the loss of one of the Ford or Willys marked ones, the one marked ' G-503 ' with the wire wound handle is a post war Armee Francais example . . . . . . . the Ford and the Willys are stored in the Shoebox.

If you're interested in Maritime disasters, mutiny, murder, the Dutch VOC or the spice trade, the infamous story of the BATAVIA is worth reading about.  It is truly an incredible true story.

UK Royal Mail finally honours WWII Women  . . . . . .

The UK post office have finally released a set of stamps honouring women that served in WWII, the stamps cover Air, Land & Sea service-women, also women that took over mens jobs during the war such as farming and forestry work.

A great pity that these stamps weren't issued years ago whilst many of the women were still alive and felt that their services were valued.

Flowers out this year . . . . .

The wisteria has given a good show this year, and they have also spread across the archway I built three or four years ago from one side of the garden to the other where they are also climbing into the trees as well.

Mikie,

California was a lush tropical forest 20,000 years ago but since then it’s been turning into a desert and hasn’t stopped.

You might get more droughts.
