General Apathy Posted December 24, 2011 Share #4005 Posted December 24, 2011 Merry Christmas Lewis. I tip a glass of wine to you today. My wife was wishing for a white Christmas until I showed her a picture of Christmas last year Robert Hi Robert, well thanks for the toast and best wishes to you, your wife and all the family...... We had a picnic on the Utah beach this afternoon, five adults, two teenagers, three dogs, champagne, whiskey, rum, coffee, sausage rolls, crisps, mince pies and a shed load more. I forgot to take any shots of the beach and the sunshine so I captured the sunset as we were loading up to drive home. ken Norman D. General Apathy Posted December 25, 2011 Share #4010 Posted December 25, 2011 Dateline, Christmas Day December 25 2011, 12.00 hrs. At mid-day today my neighbour Tony knocked my door and handed me a three inch square ( 8 x 8 cm ) of U.S. camouflaged parachute that his dog had just sniffed out from the hedgerow just thirty yards ( 30 Metres ) from my front door, 67 years after it was possiblly hidden there as a full or part of a parachute. ken Norman D. Found some info on Vargas, seems like he preferred redheads, which I can understand. http://www.btinternet.com/%7Ebrmerc/vargas/Vargas.html Here's the website I found him in. http://freespace.virgin.net/b.mercer/Pinup1.html it also has artwork from Gil Elvgren. Sorry again for disrupting the posting of your parachute find, but I also thought this was very important and informative Hope you had a nice peaceful Christmas out there on the coast. General Apathy Posted December 26, 2011 Share #4016 Posted December 26, 2011 Ken, do you have any original 1944 winter snow? RC Hi RC, well this time last year we were under two feet of snow and that was creating some damage to some of the ancient frail barn structures, and it lasted a couple of months. This year however the weather is fantastic, bright sunshine no rain, no heating on in the house, one duvet on the bed in place of two, sweater weather outdoors no need for coats during the day. The weather reports say that this part of Normandy and the UK just across the channel are warmer than the mediterranean at this time.  ken Norman D. Hope you had a nice peaceful Christmas out there on the coast. Pat Hi Pat, pleased that you found further information and images by Vargas. Yes we had a peaceful Christmas here, living in the country away from towns then all the hub-bub is not surrounding you and in your face, certainly this area of France is not menaced with the commercialism that the UK suffers from. You may have read a few posts back that a bunch of us spent Christmas eve afternoon on Utah beach, the shot above shows a number of smoke shell canisters exposed by the seasonal tides, the beach is different on each visit. These canisters are similar in size to a large tin of beans or vegetables. ken Norman D. General Apathy Posted December 26, 2011 Share #4018 Posted December 26, 2011 Christmas eve, Utah beach cont .......... A few posts back a bunch of us spent Christmas eve afternoon on Utah beach, the shot above shows what appears to be some sort of hatch cover, two hook brackets on one side and two long bolts at the other side, the two bolts at one time may have passed through a wooden block or beam. ken Norman D. craig_pickrall Posted December 26, 2011 Share #4023 Posted December 26, 2011 I'm glad to see his swimming top has alternating colors (colours or whatever) for the buttons so he doesn't get confused and cross button his clothing. He should have flip flops to protect his feet from all those rusty and sharp items laying around on the beach. Can youphoto shop some in to see how they look? I bet he really has to fight off the ladies when he wears that outfit.
