Hi Johan,

that's another film that's on the to-watch list if it appears over here.  Based on the true story of 89-year-old British World War II Royal Navy veteran Bernard Jordan who "broke out" of his nursing home to attend the 70th anniversary D-Day commemorations in France in June 2014.  At the time it made National news on the television with requests to the population to report any sightings of him to the authorities due to concerns for his age and health. However  I believe he got to the ferry port and tried to access the ferry without a passport, but he did make it across to the 70th celebrations.

Supposedly Michael Caine announced that it would be his last film. Glenda Jackson the female lead died nine months after filming.

Hi everforward.

Just dropped into a friends for coffee and he had seen this advertised as WWII RAF, however just looking at it there are NO markings anywhere exterior or interior RAF, dates or manufacturer . . . . . . .  It's in excellent condition but nothing identify it's date or nationality.

Liberation of Southern France 1944.

I captured this screen grab of a civilian owned WWI US Liberty truck shown during a documentary about the liberation of Southern France in 1944, note on the radiator grille it's embossed with USA.  The French FFI member appears to have US clothing and a weirdly painted or covered WWI style helmet.

Not knowing anything of the background of the short clip featuring this truck included in the documentary, I am wondering if it is genuine to the liberation or a postwar anniversary celebration that the researchers have included.

Note that the doorway on the Jeep has been especially deepened to enable Mr Roosevelt easier access due to his inability to walk and climb aboard.

Hi 6th.MG.BN.

Ken,   I see in another thread that you are making oak frames for Riker cases, they really look good and greatly improve the surround that normally comes with the Riker cases.

Sorry for the repeat picture. I have difficulty remembering yesterday, none the less 2018. The only thing I do remember from then was that my stinky but still beloved San Jose Sharks hockey team knew how to win a game or two back then.

Hi Mikie.

Hahhaaaaa,  no worries about the second posting of that image,  PSP details have a lot of interest for me since living here and seeing so much of it still in use one way or another.  I still have ten sections in my garden which I park two cars on or it would be a mud bath out there.

To try and not duplicate things I have to try and remember all the topics, subjects, photographs that I have posted on here daily for the last seventeen years . . . . . . . . .can't say I always get it right.

Can't say I always get it right, can't say I always get it right. !!!!!!

Hi Peter,

Spam featured heavily during WWII in the UK and American forces.   Friends in the UK have leased site number 4 on the old Bungay US airfield and are preserving and restoring what still remains there since WWII as a memorial museum.

Note the mess hall is called ' Ye old Spam Shopp '.

Dear old Dad used to enjoy a can of Spam once in a while. He used to tell us that the folks in Hawaii when he was stationed there could cook amazing things with it.

We have a restaurant here called L&L Hawaiian BBQ that has a Spam recipe on the menu. I’ll have to try it one of these days but have somehow resisted so far.
