Ok so ' The Good, The Bad & The Ugly ' may not be regarded as a  war film but there are scenes within the film depicting the American Civil War. Also there are ' blunders ' within the film, once again American WWII uniform and equipment can be seen in use with several actors including one of the lead actors Eli Wallach who are to be seen wearing the WWII green striped elasticated suspenders.

Also in several scenes there are actors wearing U.S. WWII Mackinaws . . . . . . .

Attached below is an 11 minute video on Youtube showing Then & Now images of the filming locations, difficult as most of the film was shot in mountainous areas, but a worthy attempt at finding the locations.

Hi Johan,

pleased that you had a run out, always great when the wheels are churning.

I just checked my phone to see if a message I sent a friend on Friday was still on there, sorry to say I had deleted the message but this is what I sent to a local jeeping friend,

" Jeeps Sunday morning meet 10h00, rain or shine  " . . . . . . . . . . .

Hi Kat.

I haven't used a top since the mid 70's, I think Johan might have been at the winter rally in the Ardennes in 2017 and he will have seen me there without top or screen.

A couple of older shots of the Jeep minus top & screen, these days no-one wants to join me mud-plugging with their Jeeps  . . . . . . . . . !!!

I never carry a top in the Jeep, I did have a lucky Mountebourg farm find in 2014 an original hood left-behind when the troops moved on, of course this is a collection piece and not for using, so rare.  Last photo shows a very similar hood that Johan captured a photo of in the Overlord museum at Omaha beach, the one in the museum was made for the early model Jeep ( six straps ) without a Jerrycan on the rear.

My find is for the later model ( five straps ) with a jerrycan mounted, ( museum piece really )

Well, you do have about 3 jeeps in NOS spare parts, most other jeepers aren't so lucky so if something breaks it takes more than hitching a ride back to your shed 😋

The top is a great find!

Hi Kat,

Well it's Sunday morning and raining AGAIN, so what did I do, I went out in the Jeep of course . . . . . .

#1  raining on the way to the bar in Ste Mere Eglise.

#2. Wet cap and wet 1940 dated German goggles.

#3. Jeep sat in the square in Ste Mere Eglise

#4. Wet Jeep.

#5. Wet Jeep wing,  I spray the Jeep about once a month with cheap paraffin, it dries off after several days but enough enters the paint to make the bodywork waterproof note the rain sitting on the surface.

Drinking coffee I get a phone call telling me that there was a small local militaria Fair, so I drop in on the way home and meet several local French friends take a coffee with them and have a look around but walk in and out with the same money in my pocket.

So Graham ( McDuff ), on one of the tables was a  USMC Para-Marine jump smock, didn't inspect it, didn't ask a price, I wasn't in the market for buying it, wasn't until I was making this post that I wondered about the possibility of it being ' re-pro ',  it looks so clean and unused in the photo.

Hi Ken, A fun day being had for sure!! That is a lovely looking piece of camo. It looks good to me. I reckon it will be upwards of €3k. I never bought one, as the matching trousers were impossible to find. I only know of one person in the UK who has an original pair..... rarer than identified 101st 506th Airborne reinforced pants!!!

Thanks again for thinking of me! Cheers!

Hi Dunmore,

Welcome,  yes the European NATO forces have given up using flintlocks now, and I do see flintlocks for sale at a lot of the shows.

well I do believe its a wet day in the UK as well today, I can't recall the year but I do recall that it was a VERY wet day 💦😂 when you travelled in the rear seat of my Jeep when you were over here on a Normandy visit.

American Graffiti

Hi Ken,

You have me mistaken, I've never been to Normandy and never sat in your Jeep, sadly.

I did like the comment about being born waterproof as Brits, being from the North the rain never bothered me when I was younger, but I think our waterproof coating starts to rub off as we get older😆 so I might start spraying myself with cheap paraffin in future, seems to work OK👍

Not sure which is rarer around here, rain or a militaria show! Its been a long time for either. We could sure use a lot of both!

I am curious, though, besides the parafin, what else do you do to keep all that rain from causing rot or rust in the tub?

Mikie
