Today's flea market find . . . . . . . . .

we visited a street flea market this morning and I spotted this small window frame for sale, there were broken panes of glass at the top that had been covered over internally with a wartime food carton. I didn't ask the price it was more of a museum piece than something for me, the carton was dated ' 10-44 ' and appeared to hold twelve large tins, possibly food.

That's some quality carton. I wouldn't expect today's carton to hold up so well.

I picked up a couple of Vietnam era items at our monthly flea market this weekend. But on the way back I stopped at  a random estate sale that I happened to pass. And I may have it one outta the ballpark?  I found this book about the WWII US Navy hospital ship USS Solace. It has an inscription signed by the author Pat Daly .  Bought it for $2.00. I knew a little about the ship before, but never saw a whole book about her.  I tried to research it when I got home and found almost nothing about the book or the author anywhere online. Daly was onboard her during the Pearl harbor attack, so it seems I got a rare book, and a Pearl Harbor veteran signature for 2 bucks. I'll post bout this elsewhere on the forum and see if anyone knows anything more about the book.  Hope so because I'm not finding much at all.  I love a good mystery book, but in this case, the mystery IS the book.

It's always the surprise finds that make it worth it.

Ah, I get the clown part. It was never meant to be used in the British slang meaning. More as in share a room at best. Sorry if I did offend anyone. I'll get me coat. So long.

Hi Rene,

no you haven't offended me, shell of an armadillo to be sure, young and naive and I might have been, old and withered is what most would say.

Hi Jeepsters . . . . . . .

A few of the old wrappers and tags from earlier Jeeping days when any spares would have been 100% original new old stocks.

Interesting wrapper in the top left corner for converting an early Willys with no trailer socket to a trailer socket configuration.

interesting the numbers packed in a wrapper or carton, 5 distributor rotors, 3 fuel caps ( small opening ), 4 webbing straps.

Well what a surprise to come back to the forum to find a post Bill Scott started on the same patch. . . . . . .

Looking through some boxes today for something else I finally found these two patches which I hadn't seen in thirty years and believed I had lost them, ( three house moves later they finally appear )

Back in 1972 in the back streets of a UK industrial town  I purchased these two patches and the M3 knife and the ' 504th ' named M6 scabbard for £10, ( how did I do ) . . . . . . . . . . . .

For many years I tried to find an i.d. for the patch design, the only details I ever found was an article in either the UK Times or Observer on the fiftieth anniversary of D-Day, the article which I now have to find ( I swear I saved it, I did I know 🙀 ) stated that this was a secretive unit given an airbase in a Reindeer park by Winston Churchill for dropping SOE / OSS supplies into Europe ( Hence the large reindeer head in the design ). However scrawled on the rear of the leather patch in ink,  it has 8AF, Chem. Warfare.

After re-finding the patches and searching on-line again today for the design an image I spotted by Bill Scott brought me back to the forum and the details members have posted, first time I have ever seen the patch shown anywhere at all in forty years.

I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to find these again in the last thirty years, a few other little treasures appeared as well.

Another item that probably hasn't been displayed in thirty years . . . . never enough room for everything.

I would say the parachute worked fine, the landing needs some work? :) Crane seems to be a Coles 5-ton on a Thornycroft Amazon chassis.

This modification happened to my jeep while in service, rather haphazard... I kept the mod and re-installed a socket during the restoration. Any chance you have a scan of the instructions for this conversion, especially the electrical bit?

My August 1942 GPW was also made without the socket and had the modification set added later in WW2.
I kept it during restoration and made the wiring myself based on an original kit.

Trailer Socket Field Modification Kit

On my GPW, and Yes, it was installed crooked

I recreated the original two wire loom and attached it to the early Jeep wiring kit as described in the original kit.
Hooked it up to the main light switch and the socket in the toolbox...

Well, at least your hole is round... mine seems to be made of 4 smaller drilled holes and a hacksaw 😋

We discussed it here before, but I would like to change the home-made wireloom (made with plastic wires) for a more correct one, but I need to figure out how to make a few changes, such as indicator lights and that we used the front BO lights for parking lights (all obligatory under Dutch law)...
