General Apathy Posted October 14, 2020 Share #17151 Posted October 14, 2020 . Past images shown on the forum . . . . . . . It was pleasing to see an image used once again this week in another thread, and possibly used several times since I posted it way back in 2007. Forum member ' Avigo ' started a thread about U.S. military safety razors, member ' tdogchristy90 ' kindly added my 2007 image of a 1942 Gem shaving razor to the thread for reference. The outer carton has a U.S. stock number and the blades are marked ' service pack ' on the side. Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, October 14 2020. . General Apathy Posted October 14, 2020 Share #17154 Posted October 14, 2020 . Recent Normandy finds . . . . . . . . . . . Yesterday I called into one of the Militaria dealers over here, a few weeks back he acquired a considerable number of dug up M-1926 waist life-belts probably abandoned in a pile as the troops left the beach area. I recently saw an image of a beach area with a wooden sign telling the troops to ' abandon life-belts here ' wish I had a copy of that image. Norman D. Glad to see you here. Lots of great things and people on the forum, but Norman D. Landing is one of my favorite places on the whole dang internet. If you haven't yet, everyone here should check out CrustyBosun's thread about his time onboard the USCG Eagle. Great stuff. Mikie

Hi Rene, nice sets . . . . . . When I had the store running I had large quartermaster cartons of original wartime toiletry stocks I will have to see if I have any photos of the outers in my files. All the contents were mainly civilian stocks inside the outer QM cartons, Here are some of the different brands I had, some of the individual cartons did have ' Service Issue ' printed on them, but not all, razors, brushes, creams. Hi Robert, thanks for commenting, pity you missed out on some of them. Here are two packs of Barbasol shaving cream both were shipped overseas to service personnel, the carton on the left is the civilian style of package, the carton on the right is marked ' Overseas-Special '. The Quintone shoe polish is marked ' Packed Expressly for the U.S. Army ' and has Navy, Marine & Army emblems on the lid. Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, October 16 2020. . . mikie Posted October 16, 2020 Share #17163 Posted October 16, 2020 There is quite a nice stache of shaving things here lately. Hope nobody gets in a lather about that bad pun. Thank goodness I got that out of my system. I just know you've been waiting for it. Seriously, this is another area of militaria that I really haven't thought much about. I appreciate the lessons here. Mikie

Well Mikie, brushing on past the close-shave you almost had making a pun like that, I'm adding some more to the mix with soap boxes and towels . . . . . . . . More to this topic than you could imagine, we haven't got into all the different makes of toothbrushes, tooth-paste, shaving creams, and more razors and blades . . . . . . . . . . tweezers, nail scissors, shaving mirrors, combs . . . . . . . . I will have to dig through some more of my old store images . . . . Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, October 17 2020. .
General Apathy Posted October 17, 2020 Share #17165 Posted October 17, 2020 . Then & Now, Utah beach life-belts . . . . . . . . . . . . Earlier this week I added an image of M-1926 lifebelts in a local Militaria store for sale recently recovered somewhere along Utah Beach. A longtime Jeeping chum Len reminded me of this famous Utah Beach shot with a bunch of abandoned belts seen in the photo. The men are leaning against the wall of a German bunker built behind a building close to the beach, the building is now the Roosevelt Cafe which faces the Utah museum across the road. Norman D. Dogsbody Posted October 17, 2020 Share #17169 Posted October 17, 2020 Not your usual find at the beach...........two days ago this washed ashore on the Dutch coast. It appears to be a part of a Spitfire wing. Further investigation will be done to try to find out if it can be traced to a certain plane and pilot. mikie Posted October 19, 2020 Share #17172 Posted October 19, 2020 I don't want to wash out on this recent subject, so here is my humble contribution. I gathered up this little collection of stuff at a garage sale just before the lockdown. All for just $6. The staple gun and trowel are not military, but the gun works great and has been quite handy to have around. Far as I can tell, it dates to the 1960's. No date or other markings on the US Navy soap dish/box thingee. I guess the trowel could be military since it is used with mortar. Mikie

Mikie Forgot to mention, the flashlight still works and is a type used late war through the 1950's best I can tell. The canteen is a 1945 Volrath. I sure miss stopping at random garage sales and flea markets. Just never know what there is to find. Maybe someday they will return.
