Hi Robert,  back in the mid 70's I was helping a Jeeping friend renovate his house and we found a number of post-war newspapers pushed into a wall space to prevent the wind blowing through.  I opened the 1947 newspapers and started looking through the pages, a local surplus firm was offering working half-tracks for £250 :o, crated NOS unused V8 flat-head engines £750.

The firm was still operating in the 1970's and I made a visit, all the vehicle stuff had been sold off but from their salesroom I bought a couple of hundred American flying goggles, less than a dollar each. :o

.

I could buy salvage yard engines for $25 US. I was racing them and went through a few. My brotherr and I could switc an engine out in a hour

UK friends Jeeping weekend . . . . . .

about two weekends ago a bunch of UK Jeeping friends got together for a Jeeping-Camping weekend, one of the days they drove a few mile down to the coast and sat looking out to sea over the white cliffs of Dover.

Well the following week a very large chunk of the white cliffs started breaking away to crash into the sea below. The Jeeps were parked in the spot of the two cars seen in the second photo and the cliff breaking away a few hundred yards away.

Jeepers creepers!  I'm pretty sure it wasn't their fault.

Hahahaaaa Mikie, 0nce again we can see a similarity between one of our posts.

Four years ago I attended a reunion week at a mountain / rock-climbing school I was a student at when I was a teenager.  One day when we were out climbing I stepped over this small rock and in the split second that I did I envisioned a small fairytale house so I stopped and placed it inside my rucksack and finished the climb and then had to carry it three to four hours on the descent.

Hi Piet,  when I got home after the trip I found a small Smurf to stand in the doorway of his fairytale house . . . . . It looks good stood under the Christmas tree in December, a light dusting of snow on its roofline.

Normandy Beach Race, today . . . . . . . . . .

Today myself and Mike a local Jeeping friend drove over to Ouistreham to see the arrival of cars and bikes for the second annual beach race.  There was a worry that it would be cancelled with the current Coronavirus regulations, but we were there when the cars started arriving.

The car below appears to have been an official Renault race car, possibly eight cylinder.

The guy stood leaning on the hood of the small Ford pickup is Spanish and lives on the Spanish island of Majorca, he caught the ferry across to Barcelona and drove from there to Ouistreham on the coast near Caen, a distance somewhat around 1,200 kilometres and twenty hours driving, he probably deserves the long-distance award.

Ken,

All those cars are amazing. I am like Rene. I like the Renault truck the best. Did you get a picture of the dog riding on the motorcycle trailer? I really like all of the motorcycles too.

So sad to see the cliffs eroding away. It would be amazing to see that many jeeps all together!

This 31 minute film popped up on my YouTube feed today. Seems very appropriate for the blog here. A jeep tour of the Operation Market Garden battlefield, given by a Dutch young lady and featuring the recently discussed movie "Theirs Is The Glory", with many "then-and-now" segments. I think you'll enjoy it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjt47jP8Wec

Hi Kat,  we returned for the Saturdays events and there were many many more cars there, mainly just regular American street cars.

here's a shot off the start line taken by my friend Mike.

Hi David,  On the Saturday we thought there could have been a couple of hundred cars and as many motorcycles. There was lots of stuff that turned up but hadn't booked into the event so cars were parked all over the area.

Todays UK radio . . . . . . . . . . .

The output on BBC radio 2 today is totally ' DIRE ', so for the last four hours whilst working on my computer I have been playing the back catalog of Led Zeppelin tunes through Youtube, just reached ' Kashmir ' and still blown away with it even after so many years . . . . . . . . . .

Emailed my daughter earlier with one of our favourite songs with the message ' love you, always '

Bob, Carak, Carmen and Stryder the dog, at the Bron-y-aur farm near Machynlleth, North Wales, the dog was such a calm creature.

Hi Mikie,  yes we were really pleased that it went ahead, it would have been such a shame for the year long planning that the organisers made if it were cancelled.

As you say almost 99% of people had a mask on . . . . . . an original RAF Irving jacket seen in this photo.

Hi Mikie,  a couple of ' drop-tank ' racers during the grand parade down the course . . . . . . .

there were less people over the other side of the track as it required walking a long circuit of the course to get there.

Don't see the Jeep lined up with the Hot Rods!!..Was Mr Sparks out there??...

.

Hi 517th, there was at least one Jeep and one Dodge weapons carrier circling around, the Jeep led the first grand parade down the course.

Doubt Mr Sparks was there when we spoke with the organisers they were disappointed how many British entrants had to withdraw because of the the lockdown of the ferries.
