Wanting to know more about these barrels, I did a google search.  Not much to do with German fuel barrels, but these clips came up as part of my search.  I could go on, but you get the picture.

Is that second film shot after the driver consumed the 1,5 liters of beer?????

In 1979 the Boomtown Rats sang ' I don't like Mondays ', and some people don't like the number 13, combine that today date is Monday 13th.

However today I love Mondays and even the fact it's the 13th, the reason,  someone saying to me ' you have a Jeep, would you like this '

Sometimes it's the little surprises that make you think and wonder........A while ago I found at a second hand bookstore two volumes describing extensively part of the resistance work during WW2 in the Netherlands. In the book is a list naming known traitors and agent provocateurs (inciting agents). At this page someone attached with a post it note an obituary of someone who past away not too long ago. The name that's mentioned in the obituary is on that list.  I'll leave everything the way I found it but it makes me wonder who put it there and why..........

(For privacy reasons I obscured names and dates in the obituary. The name is clearly marked in the book so I placed a dot in front of every name in the list.)

IS this the same bookstore you got the Kreigsmarine books at? If so, I'd keep going back there if I were you.

Normandy Then & Now, Ste Mere Eglise . . . . . . . .

last week I spotted an image that was taken in Ste Mere Eglise around 1946 / 47 during a visit by US troops commemorating the battles in the town in June 1944.  What struck me was the unusual sun-dial built into the corner of the wall, I just looked through some of my images of Ste Mere and I have a shot of the same building and it's just possible to see that the sun-dial is still there.  When I have time I will try and make a better comparison closer to the original 1946 image.

During the war the store on the ground floor E. Castel was a ladies clothing store and haberdashery, about five years ago the empty building was cleared out and became a cafe' thankfully the new owners kept the wartime name above the store.

How wonderful. Just found out that a coworker caught the virus at a 4th of July party. He thought it would be OK to go.  I work in an essential industry so I have been fortunate to be able to go to the office, usually on my own.  But now we are on total shutdown until we get tested.  Had my test yesterday.  He is asymptomatic and if I have it, so am I.  I'm fine except for my usual aches and pains. But I have to self isolate until my results come back in a few days.   Not looking for sympathy, I'm pretty sure I am fine.  I'm far far more worried about passing this thing on to others than for myself. That should be everyone's main concern. Please please please learn the moral of the story...Wear a darned mask when you go out.  Keep your distance from others while in public. Don't go to parties for a while yet. Wash your hands and sanitiize a lot.  This has nothing to do with "freedom" or politics.  A virus doesn't give a rat's as about  your politics.  One person goes to a party not knowing they have it.  Next thing, dozens of people need to stay home, get tested and possibly get sick or die, and pass it along to people they don't even know and never met.  OK I'm off my sanitizer box.  Take care and be safe everyone!  I'll keep you posted.

Hi Mikie, well thanks for highlighting the story of your unintentional connection to this damned virus, I wish you well and continued good health.

This virus and lock-down has turned our world on end.  Personally I worked like a trojan for about ten weeks at the start of my local lock-down hoping to have a lot done for the day when friends would be able to visit for coffee or a meal again. I have to say that I now feel slightly at a loss, the hoped for day when friends could return and visit has not happened and with that my lack of interest in working hard around the house and garden with no-one to sit and share the fruits of my endeavours.  Everyone is still either under lock-down rules or uninterested in risking being out socialising.

Praying for the return to normality someday, my daughter should have been married yesterday but that is now cancelled until next year with everyone hoping for an end to the virus before then.

Nice to have you here. The forum, and Norman D Landing in particular, has been  a fun place to hang out, learn stuff and "meet" lots of great folks. More than once, and not just now, NDL has been a refuge for me to get away and forget my troubles for a little bit.

Hi Mikie, well here's a closer image of the sun-dials I shot this morning while in Ste Mere, they are a feature of many properties in Normandy each one slightly different in design or size.

WWII German artwork, perhaps . . . . . . . .

recently found this lovely image, it appears to be WWII German artwork following the lines of US artwork of women factory workers, I have no further information on this image as to its originality or not, sometimes trust nothing, question everything  . . . . . . . . . .
